Loretta Lynn, 90, passes away. God Bless Loretta Lynn.

Country music legend Loretta Lynn has died at the age of 90.

The 4-time Grammy winner — whose glittering career spanned six decades — passed away Tuesday at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Her family confirmed the news in a statement provided to the Associated Press, but did not disclose a cause of death.

Lynn — who was raised by a coal miner in rural Kentucky — became a worldwide sensation with her 1971 track “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

However, the singer-songwriter used her poverty-stricken Appalachian childhood as the basis for dozens of her other hit songs.

The Country Music Hall of Famer also wrote fearlessly about sex and love, cheating husbands, divorce and birth control — and sometimes got in trouble with radio programmers for material from which even rock performers once shied away.

Lynn’s other hits included “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),” and “You’re Looking at Country.”

May the perpetual Light shine upon Loretta.

May she rest in peace. Amen.

I never knew what the big deal was about being a coal miner’s daughter.

The coal miners life was a hard one. They worked long hours for low wages. The potential dangers were always there for them and their families which includes the high rates of black lung disease.

Tell me if you could do that work for literally pennies aday.

A typical coal miner in the 1940's

Who’s going to fill her shoes?

My grandpa was a coal miner.

My mom was a coal miner’s daughter.

That’s why I always wondered what the big deal was.

Oh no! Not Miss Loretta! Very sad news.

Neat story! Thanks for sharing.

I was given tickets to the CMA Awards by CBS back in 1989 (or somewhere around that year), which included the after party and got to see Miss Loretta there, but did not attempt to speak with her or any of the other stars. She was so gracious and classy even off stage, and seemed genuine, not that fake celebrity stuff. I just munched on the country ham biscuits served on fancy silver trays and whatnot, and was so surprised at how short Conway Twitty was when he spoke to me, but didn’t let on. Very nice man.

RIP Miss Loretta. And may the Lord comfort your family and friends in their sorrow.

"The writer is making a joke, right?"

What is so funny?

Just curious, did you ever spend the same amount of tine trying to figure out the meaning of Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited"?

If you have never watched “Coal Miner’s Daughter” with Sissy Spacek, you should find it and watch it as soon as possible. She does an excellent job in the role of Loretta Lynn.

“What is so funny?”

It is not funny. That was my point. The lady was 90 years old. Why would it be necessary to even mention, “The family did not disclose the reason for her death,”....paraphrased. At 90 years old why would anyone choose to add that little bit of information?

I assumed that the writer was simply trying to fill space.
