My local Krogar grocery employee told me today that ID Scanning would become mandatory on 8/31 to buy alcohol
I tried nicely to explain to her that it would violate my privacy rights and that it would be illegal under my state law.
She told me not so nicely that she would enjoy refusing to sell me alcohol in a few days.
I went to a few other stores and talked to the employees and they said pretty much the same thing. None of the workers were told that it was not legally required, probably so they could be thrown under the bus.
I had the same problem with Rite Aid a last year ago until I was forced to sue them.
If anyone has a Kroger store near them, please let them know that this is not OK.
Kroger has had lots of data breaches so it is proven they cannot safeguard your data that they never needed in the first place
Hopefully I have done enough to discourage this new policy (and I expect to sue), but if more people who believe in privacy let them know it may be helpful
Thanks - most people don’t. Doesn’t bother me a bit.
Would you want to go up against Giant Eagle? lol. The managers mop the floors.
Rumor is that the vastly-tentacled Kroger is eyeing Publix when the economy craters in the next year, when we will see the craziest conglomerate consolidation in American history -- an attempt to prop a failing stock market as the Boomer Curve collapses on itself -- that will likely fuel both hyperinflation and another "Great Recession".
Think of all the drive-thru chicken shacks out there right now -- nearly 20 -- and maybe 6 surviving consolidation.
I've looked at the "Krogar" map upthread and "Krogar" does not sell alcohol anywhere that is state-store mandated, ie, you can get it at the bodega cheaper and without flashing your ID. I would not be surprised, in fact, if that is why "Krogar" has never tried PA or further northeast.
There are several stores under the Kroger Corporate umbrella. Food 4 Less, Smith’s, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, just to name a few.
The ones I’ve listed are in states that don’t show up on the posted location map.
