Family members said "Buck," a rescue pit bull of five or six years, "would never intentionally hurt her," referring to 89-year old Joan Caffiel.1 On Tuesday morning, Buck suddenly attacked and killed Caffiel. "I don't know what happened, but that is totally not like Buck at all," the victim's grandson, Peyton Faircloth, told reporters. Faircloth said his grandmother suffered from dementia. At the time of the attack, she was being watched by a hired caretaker.
"We had Buck for about five, six years. There was not a mean bone in that dog's body. That dog would sleep with us in our bed every single night. And he 'loved' grandma. Very, very protective of grandma ... He would never intentionally hurt her. He probably was trying to protect her from somebody or something." - Peyton Faircloth
Faircloth lived in the apartment with Caffiel, but was away when the fatal attack occurred. Faircloth erroneously claimed that Buck must have been "trying to protect her from somebody or something," in an effort to explain the deadly attack. Protect her from what? The caretaker? Also, why would a dog that was an alleged "guard dog" for the grandma, kill the grandma? The family, also called the fatal attack a "freak accident," a term first coined by a pit bull owner in 1985. . .

Old Buck’s a member of the family now. After all “blood’s thicker than water.”
The dog just snapped!
I figure they call ‘em lab mixes because it really is like chemistry class.
The whole point is to make something go Kaboom, or why bother?
Pit bulls should be bred out of existence.
Oh put a sock in it.
*ouch*

Per the quote in the article, it seems like perhaps a case of mistaken identity . Has was a good doggy and he apparently meant no harm as he ripped grandma’s throat out
Yes...we are going to meet a lab/aussie mix at local shelter today...shelter has mostly pit bulls and this is a small town. I would never have a pit bull, ever. And, I am good at training dogs.
All pit bulls are considered properly trained until they attack. Then they aren’t. I suppose we should deputize all the pit bull enthusiasts to certify properly trained dogs. But then their certificate would be ruled invalid after they attack.
Question for the enthusiasts- How do you envision handling pit bull ownership when your certification is not achieved? Asking as one who was bitten in the butt by “the lovable, never aggresive family pit bull”
LOL 🤣
I see you are still on your evil quest to rid the world of dogs.
GFYS.
Of course, because pit bulls are such love bugs.
Yeah,..... no.
No kidding.
I'd put a bullet in the dog myself if that were my family.
There are times an eye for an eye works for me.
There is no way on earth that whatever multiple charges are pressed against him, that he could ever begin to repay that poor woman for the life she is not forced to lead.
His irresponsibility has totally ruined her life for good.
No amount of payment will ever get back her lost body parts or atone for the pain she endured.
Ah, FR’s favorite pit bull personality poster is making lying exaggerations yet again.
Excellent. It's those unspecified "mixes" that are the tell. When it's not a time bomb blend, it's safe for the shelters to say.
All the best success with your meeting! Aussies are awesome. A Lab with built-in Flubber sounds like a bundle of fun. Not available in decaf, lol.
The good old days!
The other neat thing was to play with the mercury.
Don’t know that it did - I was not defending those dogs; quite the contrary, any of that type of dog that has been fought, used as bait or otherwise abused should bee humanely euthanized.
