I “get” why people get offended by this sort of thing.
BUT... I have been thinking about this. And have determined the race of the actors in most cases isn’t important.
The problem is .. we Americans tend to view the entire world through the lense of .. America!
we wouldn’t expect a Bollywood movie to have a bunch of white people in all the rolls would we? So when other countries (or in this case cultures) make a movie, they make it with the best actors that they have available nearby.
But Hollywood DOESN’T make their movies with the best available actors. They insist on Affirmative Action.
Do you honestly think they are casting "the best actors regardless of race"? I don't. I think the casting director was told "these characters must be black" and cast them accordingly.
I have no interest in this new series because I know it is going to be a woke crapfest. Same with the Game of Thrones prequel. (Besides the last season of GOT sucked so bad I don't want to see anything associated with it again).
I was on a business trip to Germany in the late 2000s. After dinner, I returned to my hotel room and turned on the TV. There was a Star Trek episode playing. The audio was dubbed with German speakers. The voices were VERY different from the original English speaking actors. Mostly voices that were much lower. It was amusing when observed from a background of having heard the original English speaking actors.
Some stories are rooted in European white ethnicity. The legend of King Arthur. Norse myths. Much of Shakespeare. European history.
These woke films aren't even engaged in color blind casting in search of the "best actors." They're intentionally seeking to rewrite Europeans stories and histories. The hope is that future generations will think that Europe always had large numbers of Africans and Muslims, and that European achievements are African and Muslims achievements.
There was a recent movie about Anne Boleyn, in which she was portrayed by a very African looking African. Sorry, that's not history.
