Top progressive activist says student debt cancelation isn’t up for debate

That one of the most prominent progressive advocates for student debt cancelation is unwilling to debate anyone on the subject suggests that she knows how empty and hypocritical her talking points truly are.

Progressive activist Nina Turner is one of the loudest online advocates for student debt “cancelation,” aka having taxpayers absorb the loss for $1.6 trillion in federal student loans. But apparently, Turner also thinks that this issue is beyond debate and that anyone who disagrees with her opposes human rights, or something.

It all started Saturday with this tweet:

Nina Turner

I still haven’t heard a reason against student debt cancelation that isn’t rooted in cruelty.

Turner said she hasn’t ever heard an argument against her position other than pure cruelty. So, I offered to debate her on it. She declined.

Shut up she explained.

It’s particularly funny to see Turner claim that there’s no place for profit in education. She is a professor, according to her Twitter bio. I wonder: Does she take a salary or any form of compensation? Or does she just teach as a form of charity?

Perhaps she should target her appeal to the ones that actually failed to deliver. If anyone owes her compensation it’s the university where she squandered all of these funds. Oh, wait so she’s a part of that failure? Imagine that!

What should be cancelled is the student loan program.

It would be wrong to cancel student debt. It sends the wrong message and insults those who played by the rules.

But dumping billions of dollars into Biden's Ukraine fire also insults those who played by the rules. What do American taxpayers get out of Biden's Ukrainian cash holocausts?

That seems to be the ethos of our times.

This is why the american left cannot have nice things. They dont allow for the conservative idea, of reform and restitution by the higher learning institutions.

Most conservatives think some of the loans were made for a product that was fraudulently represented. The recovery should be aimed at the institutions of higher leaning that said a english lit major was the direction to high paying end. Declare 100+ BA and BEs not worth the value and state goverment will not pay for those degrees anymore in grants and loans.

The reform needed is for the institutions to give the former students another 72 credit hours for a useful degree in STEM or industrial skills like welding, machining or carpentry. That inrush of 30-60 year old, ugly people, onto campus will drive the poltical snowflakes 19-25 away.

Since college graduates make on average more money than the nongraduate, the money spend on colleges is money taken from poor and given to the rich!
Is this social justice?

Again, I seen total wisdom in one of your posts.

I see the student load program as something started with good intentions by some of the legislators that voted for it. The problem is that college degrees became the holy grail and as such, progressives crowded at the trough of that money flow.

This was enhanced when the 2009 dollars during the Obama Depression were doled out to “enhance the recovery” and college professors were give big spikes in income. We are now at the sad state where they are 95% leftist and at the feed bag without stop and the rising tuitions have paid for the total progressive control of higher education.

Here’s a constructive solution that would clarify thinking all around. Let’s take all the student debt and bundle it into tradeable securities. Then engineer a swap in which the student debt was used to replace an equivalent sum of assets in the pension systems for college faculty and administrators. The colleges and their extortionate tuition increases are the proximate cause of the student debt. Let those responsible incur the market risk of default or the political risk of debt repudiation.

That’s a great idea.

But the fact that it aligns risk with reward is precisely why it will never fly with the left.

Everyday shlubs must incur all risk, while elitist rich leftists must incur all reward. They’ll maintain this model for as long as they can get away with it.

Exactly- we fed one of the major power centers of our adversaries by blindly subsidizing “higher education”.

Instead of encouraging the growth of the class of white-collar sharecroppers, which is overwhelmingly prog or left-center, conservatives should have emphasized trade schools and trade apprenticeships as preferable to university training for most people, the exceptions being those in STEM (as another FReeper suggested).

During the Trump administration I remember the federal government having a website where they had the average starting salaries for graduates, broken down by college and major. We need that brought back.

We also need stats on loan defaults by college and major, and make those with excessive default rates be ineligible for loans.

What’s needed is for colleges to be co-signers on student debt. If they graduate people who can’t pay off their loans, the college should eat it.

...isn't up for debate

...maybe liberal (brain-washer) professor/media/politicians 6 figure(hypocrisy)pensions/benefits should be...???

Those who preach the "evils" of "free market capitalism" should not reap the rewards of such.

UBI/Public housing...for ALL = "fairness" = "utopia"...remember?

Here's your stipend..now STFU and be a good little serf...like the rest of us.

It is like a 2-yr old holding it breath until it gets its way.

Obviously the most important aspect of a uni experience failed on this loser: growing up.
