Things politicians never talk about when they pander to Greenies.
A close friend farms over 10,000 acres of corn in the mid-west. The property is spread out over 3 counties. His operation is a “partnership farm” with John Deere. They use the larger farm operations as demonstration projects for promotion and development of new equipment. He recently received a phone call from his John Deere representative, and they want the farm to go to electric tractors and combines in 2023. He currently has 5 diesel combines that cost $900,000 each that are traded in every 3 years. Also, over 10 really BIG tractors.
John Deere wants him to go all electric and soon.
He said:
Ok, I have some questions. How do I charge these combines when they are 3 counties away from the shop in the middle of a cornfield, in the middle of nowhere? How do I run them 24 hours a day for 10 or 12 days straight when the harvest is ready, and the weather is coming in? How do I get a 50,000+ lb. combine that takes up the width of an entire road back to the shop 20 miles away when the battery goes dead?
There was dead silence on the other end of the phone.
He then asked,
When the corn is ready to harvest, it has to have the proper sugar and moisture content. If it is too wet, it has to be put in giant dryers that burn natural or propane gas, and lots of it. Harvest time is critical because if it degrades in sugar content or quality, it can drop the value of his crop by half a million dollars or more. It is analyzed at time of sale.
It is standard procedure to run these machines 10 to 12 days straight, 24 hours a day at peak harvest time. When they need fuel, a tanker truck delivers it, and the machines keep going.
John Deere’s only answer is “we’re working on it.”
They are being pushed by the lefty Democrats in the government to force these electric machines on the American farmer. These people are out of control.
They are messing with the production of food crops that feed people and livestock, all in the name of their “green dream.”
Look for the cost of your box of cornflakes to triple in the next 24 months.

They will do whatever globocop tells them to do.
Didnja hear? The earth only has 8.6426 years left. And Trans Sec Butticall says we need to go all electric. We don’t have time to worry about what farmers want or need. We have to move now!!!!

After that, it will really become expensive, so expensive that a box of cereal will be considered a luxury food.
truck mounted diesel generators for recharging... right?
[It’s “full woke” ... or maybe “Full genocide by engineered famine”, as pioneered by by Soviet Russia in Ukraine, about 100 years ago.]
They cannot be so uninformed that they do not know what the consequences of their plans will be. Thus, it is premeditated.
Best idea yet on this thread. I’m not giving-up mine, either.
In the last 30 years, John Deere has go to hell in a hand basket.
It is a prime example of snooty little punk kids getting their hands on the reigns of control and destroying what was once a great company.
Everything is learned from books..taught by brain dead sons a bitches in colleges.
Farmers or anyone else that need to tow 6000 lbs of load cannot exist with a Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck any better than the farmer with all electric equipment. In a recent test run carefully planned by the participants regarding the 300 mile towing range listed for the Lightning got blown out of the water. The Lightning never made it to the first charging station which was a mere 100 miles away. The test was aborted because the Lightning pooped out at 80 miles. The range of the Lightning listed at 300 miles was for the truck with no load.
Just install a few chargers around that 10,000 acres. Duh.
Silly, the answer to that is to have our submarines run on underwater tracks, like Disneyland. Theirs work just fine.
People have tried this with small tractors. Not compact but regular sized that were 30-40hp to start with. They converted them to electric and drive around but none of them demo with implement doing work. Gee, I wonder why? They try to sell you the planes too. LOL
People have tried keeping electric golf carts charged while operating with solar panels mounted as a roof. Problem is, the solar roof had to be 3-4 times the area of the footprint of the golf cart.
And again I say, if they want to prove alt-e;
Run a solar panel & charge controller manufacturing plant strictly from solar power. Must include manufacture of aluminum extrusion for the solar panel frame. Sheet metal or plastic molding plant to make the charge controller enclosure. Not including mining of raw materials and I bet it still wouldn’t be feasible.
Do the same with wind. Manufacture wind turbines start to finish running off of wind power.
In the both cases, they should also be manufacturing all those batteries they’ll need.
Before they say they can run the world, let them show they can self sustain their own power to build the damn things. Bet they can’t.
No it is NOT a fashion industry. It IS an ongoing science project.
We’ll be just like Cuba, 60 years from now we’ll still be using our gas engines as they will be reliable machines.
I remember talking to a friend who provided maintenance for machinery in huge mining operations deep within the Earth. He explained to me the reason he paid so much for tools, as opposed to using Craftsman tools at a low price with a 100% guarantee.
He told me that if a tool broke on the job, that it would cost thousands and thousands of dollars in down time. So he paid a fortune for tools that almost never broke.
Before I had this conversation, I was ignorant, just as your post demonstrates that you are ignorant. But perhaps no longer.
They aren't.
They're demonizing everything except the utterly inadequate and unreliable wind/solar.
That proves they're lying. They have some agenda other than powering a large, growing economy.
You will live in an urban hive, own nothing, eat worms, and be miserable.
Along with Ford and every other such manufacturer. I bought a Ford Ranger truck last year, for which I had to shop around a great deal due to lack of availability. No one could tell me where the oil filter was. No one.
Just carry a generator and a gas can with you!
I tend to agree.
I have driven hoppers(grainhaulers) during a few oil busts.
The moisture content is so critical, when we would haul straight out of the field to the grain elevator, the DOT would throw away the rule book for semi truck. Work as long as you can, and no overweight tickets.
