Uvalde in Texas needs people like this.

There are the nuanced who lecture society, and there are the plain and simple deplorables who save society. A real feel good day.

On Sunday evening, Greenwood, Indiana found a hero in their midst.
This fire rescue happened in Lafayette, Indiana.
There’s a lot for Hoosiers to be proud of right now.

I rarely watch links, but that was well worth it. What a man and hero. It made me misty. Watch it if you have the time. As the hero lay on the ground, his only concern was if the baby was okay. He asked twice.

I ran a factory with very low paid labor, most with issues keeping them down. One day after work and straight on his way to the closest bar, three children were swept away in a flash flood culvert flooding the above road. The guy never thought once about his safety as he jumped in to save them. He hung onto two until a motorist tossed him a rope which he tied around them. He then let the flood current take him away to look for the third child. He was recovered two miles downstream by fire and rescue with the third.
He was on time for his shift the next morning and right back at the bar after his shift. He lived in an enclosed porch in a run down house paying $50 a week for rent. He showered from a garden hose. He had been living that way for 15 years.

Two of the phrases I learned in the military are these:
“Lead, Follow, or get out of the way” Thomas Paine and George Patton
“There are the few who make things happen, the many more who watch things happen, and the overwhelming majority who have no notion of what happened. Nicholas Murray Butler the President of Columbia University
It’s great he could help. He took the gamble that it might have been worse and this time he was right.

I note the firemen applied a tourniquet to his right arm. Video isn't great and it isn't clear why that would be needed, but it looks like he suffered more than burns and smoke inhalation. I read elsewhere he had to break out a window; arm injuries might have resulted from that.
One brave man. RESPECT!

This young man is a true hero.
I’m all teary-eyed now, watching the video and reading the story.

Those who watch and describe a event as surreal are not ones that can be depended upon to react. Those people can be a danger to themselves and others.
