What is it with people wanting to defend musk.

Slamming Trump for his childish rants is not defending Musk. Much like criticizing Ukraine is not defending Russia or vice versa.

Trump is not doing his cause/brand of politics any justice with these public attacks. He's turning guys like me away from him. As someone said, unforced errors.

He's certainly not keeping the main thing the main thing.

Yes.

Many commenters here think the point is about who was right, Musk or Trump. Or who is the better rich guy or best President, ever!

The failure to respond to why this type of petty, churlish outburst is deleterious to Trump’s larger political chances, is commonplace but saddening.

Trump’s behavior seems like what the DNC could only dream of and greatly wish for. Because they aren’t interested in the Freeper voters.

Oh a few here are honest. I’ll give them that. They say “Yeah, mess him up, Trump! Punch him again now you got him against the schoolyard fence.”

We can do better.

Do you really think the richest man in the world cares about getting ‘insulted’ by Donald Trump? I’m sure he had a good chuckle and has moved on with his day.

Do better? I think we can, in our discourse here.

Some comments pointed out that Trump’s long game may benefit from the publicity. All publicity is good publicity, IOW.

Maybe he’s helping Elon per “Art of the Deal” and wants Twitter to be taken over at a lower price. but is he conflicted as a media competitor?

Maybe it’s a good thing if it sucks some oxygen from the Jan 6 Carnival.

As far as a 2024 candidate, I’m not sure. I can dream that Trump learns to stop handing out bullets to his enemies.

I’d like him back.

Thank your for encapsulating the Cult of Trump so perfectly. If he loses, “so what?” All that matters is Trump. Nothing else. Not the country, not the economy, nothing. Trump is all that matters, and he must be followed and adored without question.

Trump lost.

The election was stolen. Fraudulent. No way Basement Joe gets 81 million legitimate votes.

Desantis WAY too smart run in '24 to please the stupid Trump haters and RUIN his future prospects which are excellent. FOAD loser.

Exactly right — Trump spent four years undermining himself and making personal enemies for no reason whatsoever. Now, I still mostly fault his enemies, because most of them are just as childish themselves and completely unable to just let it go. We all have to deal with people who are difficult. Sinking to the level of hating them forever is far worse than the original behavior.

It is great that Trump was able to expose the deep state, the RINOs, and the general ruling class losers. And maybe that was never going to happen without his sometimes childish and churlish behavior. But ultimately it was self-limiting.

Twitter has been around for 16 years, Truth Social has been around for a few months.

Truth Social’s big failing is that you can’t see posts without being registered. That’s not a problem with Twitter.

Besides, Orange Man bad. /s

It’s called ‘narcissistic injury,’ and it appears that Elon managed to inflict one on Trump. This is what the response looks like.

I gather you have had the misfortune to have to deal with someone of this personality (cough) type. If so, my condolences. These people do not and cannot change. Those hoping Trump will change in this regard are in for disappointment.

I don’t know if Trump has ever figured this part out, but this is precisely why Trump has so few trusted allies and good advisors, which is why he ended up having so many turncoats and snakes in his administration. The people who stayed with Trump know that once you say one thing that will hit his ego the wrong way, even innocently, you get this nonsense. That gets you three types of people on your staff: folks who are yes men, folks who are scared to speak up, and folks who know that day when their boss turns on them is coming and are using him and that expected breakup for career advancement.
* * * * *

This bears repeating. It will be the same throughout his campaign if he runs, and a replay of his first term should he win. Those who imagine he learned his lesson the first time around and “would be more careful hiring people” the next time around, just don’t get it. People like Trump do not change.

Just wish President Trump would stay focused on the issues that are affecting people now. His statement comes across as sour grapes / lack of impulse control / etc. He’s a better leader than that.
* * * * *

I wish the same. The American people are suffering and most unhappy under Biden and looking for someone with solutions, not petty squabbles. But Trump can’t help his lack of impulse control, and can’t change it. It is what it is.

I like his policies, voted for him twice and will do so again if he is the nominee. I rather hope he will gracefully bow out and DeSantis will run, but fear that is a vain hope.

ocrp1982 wrote at #122:

Tweeting and alpha male should not go in the same sentence. Being alpha is bite not bark. And all Trump’s been doing lately is bark.

Precisely. Some on FR equate “alpha male” with how many women a guy can get and how many fistfights he picks — which seems like a sixth trader’s notion to me. Real manly men show strength through action and do not indulge in knee-jerk overreactions to every perceived slight. To many out there, these outbursts make Trump appear weak and peevish, not strong and courageous.

DeSantis has withstood quite the onslaught from the liberal press and lefty critics and resolutely charged ahead with getting things done. He was loudly and mercilessly criticized for his “anti-mask” and “anti-lockdown” and “anti-vaccine mandate” policies and blamed for thereby causing the deaths of thousands.

Look how he was pilloried by the media for his stand against Disney and the so-called “Don’t Say Gay Bill”. Then came the accusations of racism over what they dubbed the “ Stop Woke Bill”. When he signed “ anti-voter fraud” legislation, the press went into a frenzy accusing him of “voter intimidation” — yet he resolutely pressed on with additional reforms to protect election integrity.

Words are cheap. Actions are what count. But will Trump take a page from DeSantis’s book? Sadly, no.

Inability to recognize the enemy.
Musk is NOT the enemy.
Much of Trump’s staff WAS the enemy.
I was one of the first to say Trump was going to win ‘16.
He needs to come off his high horse and listen to those who truly support him.
REALLY listen!

Truth Social’s big problem is registration!
I’ve tried three times and never got an email back to my email address verifying registration.

You ankle biting anti Trumpists are in a dream state, thinking that Desantis would even try to run against him in '24. Dream on.

Looks like the same anti Trump crowd in '16 are still at it here.

Toxic only because you buy into the media narrative.

Every politician has the same personality, Trump is just more transparent, which frankly, I find refreshing.
