Republican lawmakers privately support to Rep. Liz Cheney but refuse to do so in public for fear of former President Donald Trump, according to extracts from a new book.
The claim appeared in "Thank You For Your Servitude," by Mark Leibovich, a political writer who speak years at The New York Times Magazine and now writes for The Atlantic.
The book is devoted to exploring Trump's circle, and alleges that many people who support him in public are hypocrites who privately dislike him.
One Republican member of Congress to vocally oppose Trump is Cheney, who was stripped of a party leadership role in 2021 for criticizing the former president.
Since then, Cheney has found an influential spot as one of two Republicans on the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.
In his book, Leibovich wrote: "The wonder of this was that many Republicans agree with Cheney, quite a few of them members of her caucus. They say as much, tell her what a great job she is doing, how heroic she's been."
"But they only ever tell her this privately, always privately—just between you and me, please don't repeat this, off the record, okay?"

But one by one they are being rooted out.
They voted for impeachment.
They voted for the J6 committee.
They voted for gun control.
We know who a lot of them are.
And those we DON'T know about is because their FEAR of being found out keeps them voting the right way.
Consider the source, complete BS Democrat Propaganda.
The “many” off the record Republicans who support the media narrative are as old as unicorns and just as real.
Ah - is this the same book where Ryan bawled his eyes out because the Democrats keep losing?
Unfortunately it wont be Linda voting in the Wyoming primary.
We’re well aware there are RINOs left to purge.
It doesn't matter how many RINO Republican lawmakers support Lizzie, it depends on how many Republican VOTERS support her.
If there are a lot of closet Republican supporters, then she will easily win her primary. But if the voters can't stand her lyin' January 6th Committee ways, then it's Adios to the Rhinette.
Weasels covering all bases, not willing to take a stand.
BS. Real Republicans cannot stand that two-timing snake and Wyoming Republicans will make that patently clear in August.
That’s why ever GOP incumbent gotta go. Even those who pay lip service to Trump are suspect.
Pols are competitive. On any given day, you can get a negative quote about any given pol from any other given pol. The way every pol figures it - every other pol is blocking his path to his ultimate goal - the White House. Trump stands out - his popularity among GOP voters is such that GOP pols don’t dare to criticize him publicly lest they end their political careers within the party.
to retire and live out here remaining years enjoying the beauty of the world. Visit far off places, eat and drink foreign foods and wines, have a great time! Just stay out of Washington DC!
lol... and a bunch of Republicans also secretly tell her she is super hot, but are afraid to say it out loud because of their wives.
“Consider the source, complete BS Democrat Propaganda”
Yes it is. But we know it’s true for the most part. 145 House members chose to keep Cheney in leadership, only to change their votes later when they faced pressure...because they’re gutless.

Businessinsider is a pretty funny name for a wackjob commie rag.
You nailed it perfectly in your comment. We’ve got to stop the lack of security on mail-in voting, though.
Well they won’t have to worry about this fear much longer.
And I don’t even believe it...she’s been a huge distraction to them because she could not keep her mouth shut and has been consumed and obsessed with Trump...even if they agree with her on Trump I don’t believe they enjoyed the drama she was and continues to cause.
I have no doubt that this is true.
Many? Exactly how many?
