The EU’s interests rest in de-escalating the Ukrainian Conflict so that their companies can quickly get to work economically colonizing that country via the scheme that Zelensky proposed during last month’s Davos Summit for them “to take patronage over a particular region of Ukraine, city, community or industry.”
Former US President Trump just made a strong point about the EU’s participation in the NATO proxy war on Russia through Ukraine when he said the following: “We just gave $40 billion on top of another $16 billion. So, we’re in for $56 billion. But when you look at Europe – and Germany, and France and all these other countries – they’ve given a tiny fraction, a tiny, tiny fraction of what we’re giving. We’re giving $56 billion and they’re giving a few billion dollars. And they’re the ones who are affected much more so.” What he didn’t do, however, is explain why that is, hence the purpose of the present piece.
On the one hand, most Europeans with few exceptions like Poland and the Baltic States have pretty much always freeloaded off of the US when it comes to military cooperation, while on the other, there’s a good reason why they’re not “leading from the front” when it comes to the Ukrainian Conflict. Regarding the first, the bloc’s interests lie in having the US subsidize their security so that they can focus more on their socio-economic affairs, while the second suggests that the EU isn’t as concerned about Russia’s ongoing special military operation in Ukraine as its representatives make it seem.
It’s this observation that deserves to be elaborated upon a bit more. To begin with, despite virtue signaling fealty to their American overlord, the EU’s “Big Three” – France, Germany, and Italy – are reluctant to get too militarily involved in Ukraine. It’s not just that they’re being flooded with refugees and are now also forced to manage the massive self-inflicted damage to their economies caused by their strict compliance with the US’ anti-Russian sanctions, but that they simply don’t have the appetite for participating in a prolonged proxy war against Russia.
The military equipment that they’ve thus far sent to Kiev is useful for them insofar as the fascists can test them in the field in a real conflict, which can provide insightful data for their manufacturers about these wares’ actual effectiveness in battle. The “Big Three” likely already realize that Kiev can’t win since its daily casualty rate is unsustainable and its ridiculous arms demands mean that they’d have to practically deplete their entire arsenals in order to give their proxy even just a slim chance at victory, which isn’t considered worth such an investment that would also leave their own countries vulnerable.
Without realizing it, Trump extended credence to the speculation that the “Big Three’s” recent trip to Kiev was actually intended to float a potential ceasefire since he unintentionally raised awareness about their lack of commitment to this proxy war against Russia. Strictly complying with the US’ anti-Russian sanctions is pretty much all that America can rely on the “Big Three” to do with respect to this conflict since they’re unlikely to step up and take on the major military role that Poland already has. Unlike Poland, they don’t have any neo-imperial fantasies to role-play in Ukraine.
They’re only interested in the amount of wealth that they can extract from the country once the conflict ends via the scheme that Zelensky proposed during last month’s Davos Summit when he offered them “to take patronage over a particular region of Ukraine, city, community or industry.” Put another way, he’s literally inviting his overlords to economically colonize Ukraine, which naturally piques the interest of the “Big Three”. For their future investments to be secure and profitable, however, they need to ensure that Zelensky agrees to a ceasefire as soon as possible.
This doesn’t mean that they’ll be successful right away in this respect, nor that they’ll eschew shipping symbolic military equipment to that country for the self-interested purpose of obtaining real-time data from the field, but just that they don’t have any stake in escalating the conflict. To the contrary, their interests rest in de-escalating it so that their companies can quickly get to work economically colonizing Ukraine. Trump of course didn’t realize it during Friday’s speech, but he accidentally drew attention to this if one takes the time to reflect on what he said about the EU’s lack of military commitment to Kiev.
Much of the money allocated is fircthe Economic rebuild. That money will flood into the hands of the EU. The EU has a long history of knowing hiwxto play the US. It seems that only Trump was on to them. I guess Trump didn’t need the kick-backs.
Well, it is Biden’s war, after all.
That ‘Ten Percent For The Big Guy’ of 56 BILLION will keep the Biden Crime Family in Depends and Pudding for generations to come!
Well, Hunter will be putting the vast majority of that up his nose, but there should still be plenty left for ‘Dr.’ Jill and the Grandkids - illegitimate or not!
*SPIT*
Still waiting on France to send the blackhole named Ukraine 8, yes EIGHT, artillery pieces...... /s
The EU isn’t much interested in supporting a war started by Victoria “F**k the EU” Nuland and the band of merry neo-cons in Washington.
Another western politician who pretends not to know about Minsk II.
Build Back Better, Ukraine style? Yeah that’ll work.
Agreed but with stipulations. It is Biden's war, but therefore also Obama's and Nuland's and the Democrat party's war. Watching the clowns in Congress spraying politics and money at the Zelensky government seems to me indicative of ONE purpose.
The corruption of the Ukrainian government has been vast and operated -- in the parlance of Al Gore re: the global warming con game -- without a "controlling authority." Lots of cash went into the Ukraine and back out again to the many in the above list, including the princelings about whom we know already, sons of Biden, Pelosi, Kerry and Romney. The choice is to prop up the regime to continue the revenue stream back to the privileged in and among the privileged Democrats and RINOs in the US, or lose the income completely. Everything is predicated on this for the Biden group.
For Russia, acquiring the Russian-speaking areas to annex seems the goal in the moment, though a continuing war will weaken the Ukrainian population in toto such that the "last man standing" image applies. The Biden side wants that "last man" to continue their grift. So does it seem to me.
Those FR commentators who want to play the "Putinista" name calling game only define themselves "Bidenistas." Irrespective, what will be will be. In time. And cost at the minimum $60 billion US dollars heaped on the fire. Secretary of Defense Raytheon is smiling.
What’s new...Look at all the other countries....they haven’t paid their fair share since the UN began.
Always that way. We need to concentrate on ourselves.
And don’t forget 10% for the Big guy.
I cant see Trump bragging or complaining about providing $56 billion mostly in weapons ( that will be funneled into our own mili-industrial complex and added to Ukrainian debt) as smart.
And not when Kalibr missiles take out hundreds of millions in weapons in warehouses, that never reach the front.
Nor is it somehow morally superior to criticize the EU for taking the economic soft road of promoting a diplomatic settlement ….even under the table….as if that is somehow hypocritical
The US has had enough Ukrainian blood and destruction on its hands by our policy encouraging Z’s hardline.
You must not bd aware that French artillery is already there, shredding civilians in the city of Donetsk
Well maybe. But he idea is to win, not to get the EU to pick up the tab. It will be a lot more expensive to let Russia have Ukraine in the long run.

And a good thing it is that the European countries do not have an appetite for participating in the prolonged proxy war against Russia. The thing that really got World War I going was when everybody piled in on one side or another starting an endless horror that became the supreme catastrophe of Western civilization. Our interests in this monstrosity lie in one direction: producing a negotiated settlement between Russia and Ukraine that continues to recognize the sovereignty of Ukraine over most of its land.

Yes and I can’t discern with some of them whether they’re knowingly supporting the criminals or just deliberately obtuse to the history of Ukraine/NATO/CIA/SOROS/Clinton, Romney,Biden, Nuland, Pryatt, Brennan, Ciaramella, Vindman,John Roberts, crime families (and I’m sure the list go on for quite a while) scenario over the past few decades. But, Putin bad man is all they seem to admit/acknowledge.
When looking at the larger picture, it seems pertinent to examine the sides and players in greater detail, a far better and more instructive pastime than name-calling.
