Looks like they’ll now be part of Russia. Bummer for Ukraine, they would have been better off NOT listening to the Neocons and instead negotiating early on with Putin.
If they had abided with the Minsk Accords (which was Zelensky’s winning platform, before being coopted and ruled by the Bandera/Azovites), then Donetsk and Luhansk would still be part of Ukraine, with allowances for teaching Russian and using it as an official second language.
Patrick Lancaster was there to film it and interview people.
Sim Card giveaway starts around 25 minutes in.

Yep, they instead decided to go for broke. And now it’s not even clear they’ll have a country with Poland salivating over Western Ukraine and Belarus doing the same with Northern Ukraine, along with other neighbors thinking of their options.
Not a very wise choice, by a long shot.
Whoa whoa whoa, didn’t these folks get the memo that Zelensky is personally leading a paratrooper drop into Moscow TODAY?
Russia is not finished. They would like more territory.
If I was a Ukranian and Belarus wanted to annex my location I would think I’d died and went to heaven.
Not so sure about the Polish side though. They may end up going from one crappy situation to another.
Russia - Because 11 Time Zones just isn’t enough.
“Russia is not finished. They would like more territory.”
I agree that they’ll likely take more territory, since the Neocons don’t seem interested in stopping this war, but I don’t believe they’ve stated what their overall objectives are, at least since the war started.
Of course there would have been no need for the Minsk Accords if Russia had not backed an insurrection by the Russian minority in the two oblasts in the first place. Afterwards there were violations by both sides. The Ukrainian parliament actually passed a law granting a special status to the Donetsk and Luhansk in March 2015. The latter extended the law and granted limited self-rule in 2019. The LPR and DPR rejected this, however, since they were openly seeking unification with Russia. The narrative that it was solely Ukraine that violated the Minsk Accords is Russia propaganda.
You’re throwing facts at them. How dare you expect them to agree with reality rather than Russian propaganda?!
Why the hell should Donetsk or Lugansk remained in Ukraine after an coup that installed Ukrainian nationalists that wanted to wipe them off the face of the earth?
No. Putin is to be blamed for aggression.
“No. Putin is to be blamed for aggression.”
Well, their choice was the following:
1. Losing Crimea to Russia, and some autonomy for other Russian-speaking areas.
or
2. Losing all of the above to Russia, and much, much more.
There was no third option for them - that day had passed when we set off the coup in 2014.
Northern Ukraine would then become part of Russia, if it’s annexed by Belarus. Belarus is Russia.
“Northern Ukraine would then become part of Russia, if it’s annexed by Belarus. Belarus is Russia.”
From a Ukrainian/Polish standpoint, that is true.
I recently transported a group of Czech tennis players, coaches, etc. The were talking world politics and were speaking in English. One thing they all agreed upon is that it was not what anyone did, or did not do. Russia was going to invade Ukraine.
In hindsight, Russia was either going to have to invade or sit back and let millions of Russian-speakers in Ukraine be ethnically-cleansed (or worse). They simply ran out of options since the Neocons/Globalists refused to pick up the phone.
