Yep, tire particulats. Not even include the environmental issues concerning the batteries, or the extra power expenditures due to moving added vehicle weight.
Just as the world progressed from horse power vehicles to gas powered vehicles, it would have naturally progressed to electric or hydrogen power vehicles. The problem now is politicians and greenfreaks want to accelerate that process at their commands to gain power over common folks.
Different car weights require different tire compound formulations. Don’t put ICEv tires on a BEV.
If the electric grid goes out you can’t power gasoline fuel pumps either.
On a modern electric car it takes ~20 minutes to charge from 5%-80% or 0-100% in less than an hour. Time needed for a bathroom break or a meal every 250-300 miles. For the vast majority of people short daily trips are 95%+ of miles driven. Chargers are getting more powerful and battery packs are able to take more power every couple of years.
Pollution from ICEv is 100x any battery mining/recycling pollution. And ICEv also require mining/recycling.
The electric grid is getting cleaner every day. ICE has just about reached its peak efficiency.
And the power outages in Texas were not caused by wind/solar. It was caused by natural gas plants not being weatherized against record breaking low temperatures. Gas plants in Minnesota would have handled that weather without a problem.
GM and Ford say fully electric is the future.
How’s that koolaid?
Let's all go global!/s
BEVs are 90% efficient.
ICEv are 25% efficient. When you burn a gasoline of gas 75% is converted to heat. That heat does not move the car forward.
Even though the weight is greater you require less energy to move a BEV.
You tell me.
Biden has caused the price of lithium to soar seven-fold.
This has slowed the shift to lithium battery powered products.
Electric vehicles are simply devices to keep people confined to small geographical areas.
A means of control of movement.
“If the electric grid goes out you can’t power gasoline fuel pumps either.”
If the electric grid goes out and you’ve got or can lay hold of a small generator you CAN power those pumps. They don’t take a lot of power to run. If desperate you can use a manual pump to get fuel from the tanks when that fails.
Gas stations can take cash for gas they sell under those circumstances.
Your talking point is in error. Fundamentally so.
But nothing would stop Non-hybrid EVs from becoming expensive lawn art in a prolonged outage.
As for the power grid, look for the environmentalists to fight tooth and nail to keep it from expanding enough to handle the “future” of EVs for everyone.
Hybrids, when used as mixed power hybrids and not as EVs till the battery run down then gas, make sense. EVs much less so.
“Time needed for a bathroom break or a meal every 250-300 miles.”
If you’re going to eat a meal every 250-300 miles, you’re going to need a truck to haul your fat ass around.
Your BS smells.
Just read going to be shortage of rubber, you know to make tires.
Or the THOUSANDS of mines that need to open worldwide to get the BILLIONS OF TONS of metals and minerals needed to make solar panels, windmills, EVs, and electrical distribution plant.
Or plan for the disposal of billions of tons of toxic waste starting ten years from now and growing exponentially.
Or the restoration of MILLIONS of windmill sites when the machines reach the ends of their lives in 20 to 30 years. We will have vast forests of windmill towers with one or two blades hanging on all over the nation standing mute to this extreme folly.
Not one liberal can even spell “system.”
Yes. The energy density of an electric battery is a small fraction of the energy density of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, so batteries have to weigh much more than gasoline. You cannot fool F = MA. All that energy wasted getting that M in motion.
You want poop powered Agriculture?
Personal hobby farm, cool.
Ask Sri Lanka how mass Organic is working out.
EVs? Want one, get one.
Let the un-crony, un-subsifized markets decide.
Not for everybody, but as for me?
I want a Tesla, but She That Rules says no effin way, not yet anyway.
Yep, I’m lucky.
I got a smart one.
“The more weight you move, the more energy expended. The real environmental solution is to reduce the number of people that are actually moving by making the movement too expensive.”
Correct, electric cars are just a ‘transition’ to more ‘sustainable’ forms of transportation, which will have to be electric scooters and bicycles, at least for the West.
Russia won’t have that problem because they’ll stick with hydrocarbons for transportation.
“rapid” public charging stations.
Make up a name that sounds better then reality.
“As for the power grid, look for the environmentalists to fight tooth and nail to keep it from expanding enough to handle the “future” of EVs for everyone.”
There’s DEFINITELY a form of ‘compartmentizing’ going on with people who claim to be on our side, as they simply gloss-over the fact that the power needed to run their Carbon-Neutral society and still maintain anything above 3rd World Living standards will NEVER be permitted.
It is a smart approach by them - get the electric transition started (with cars, home heating, etc.), then get the REGULATIONS in place to force the transition as people catch on (as we’re already seeing in some Leftist jurisdictions). All that can be done without minimal impact on the grid.
Then, as the grid collapses (again, since they’ll NEVER permit the kind of growth required - due to its cost, if nothing else), people will funnel themselves into a more ‘sustainable’ lifestyle - that being high-rise apartments. Mission Accomplished.
