Amazing how the last few years every effort is made to refer to bad times as REAGAN or THATCHER. Not CARTER or Callaghan. I always see “worst since ‘82 when Reagan was in office”.
No mind that they INHERITED these messes.
Of course they don’t mention that “Thatcher era levels” were a VAST improvement over what came before and Margaret Thatcher still had to clear up a lot of the mess that was handed to her - such as avowedly communist labor unions, overweening regulations that stifled innovation and growth, etc.
The even better economy of the 90s that existed for Britain was a direct result of Thatcher cleaning up all of those messes in the 80s.
The newly-minted CPI (Consumer Price Index) may be 9% but the good old UK RPI (Retail Price Index) is now double-digit: 11.1%
If I did the conversions correctly, that comes out to $7.66 per gallon, which is cheaper than I would've thought.
