Thatcher was busy cleaning up the mess after years of trade unions and other socialist interest groups running the show in that country.

Amazing how the last few years every effort is made to refer to bad times as REAGAN or THATCHER. Not CARTER or Callaghan. I always see “worst since ‘82 when Reagan was in office”.

No mind that they INHERITED these messes.

Of course they don’t mention that “Thatcher era levels” were a VAST improvement over what came before and Margaret Thatcher still had to clear up a lot of the mess that was handed to her - such as avowedly communist labor unions, overweening regulations that stifled innovation and growth, etc.

The even better economy of the 90s that existed for Britain was a direct result of Thatcher cleaning up all of those messes in the 80s.

The newly-minted CPI (Consumer Price Index) may be 9% but the good old UK RPI (Retail Price Index) is now double-digit: 11.1%

161.8p a litre

If I did the conversions correctly, that comes out to $7.66 per gallon, which is cheaper than I would've thought.
