Texas (!) university blows it at commencement ceremony

Five years ago, my son was deciding on a college, and in the end, it came down to U.C. Berkeley or Rice University. He picked Rice because it was smaller and provided more opportunities, and it made his parents happy, because we knew that Berkeley would be a hostile place for a conservative student. However, our college experience proved that as far as ideology is concerned, there is no right choice today, no matter which college you pick. Considering that almost half of Rice students come from Texas, we were surprised to discover how liberal the student population was.

"Culture of care," introduced by the university during COVID, turned Rice into a Soviet-style camp. Students were banned from participating in any activities, and they were encouraged to snitch on each other's whereabouts. If found in violation of the agreement, a student was required to provide a lengthy letter of explanation, and many students were severely disciplined. When the 2021 winter storm hit, "culture of care" turned into the culture of torture. Students were banned from hosting or helping their friends whose apartments lost power or running water. "The scientists" in charge of the university did not care that being left alone in the storm carried a lot bigger risk to the healthy young students than COVID.

After COVID, Rice was hit with a new controversy. The board of trustees caved to the woke student movement, agreeing to "relocate" the statue of the university founder to an obscure location to create "a more welcoming environment." The move was hailed by the parents on social media as a welcome change, and any discussion or criticism was immediately removed.

Disappointed by the university policies, we still felt excited about the commencement ceremony. Sadly, it proved to be another disappointment.

Rice has been very liberal since I went to college in the 80s.

One thing about communists, they are in it for the long-term and put conservatives to shame with their careful planning and execution. I don’t know of a single institution they have not infiltrated and subordinated to their demands and lies.

My wife worked there for a number of years. I met a few conservative profs, but most were yellow-dog 'rat to the core. The students certainly were. I hated going to events where she had to attend. They were like D.C. cocktail parties. They would seldom show up to Rice football or baseball games because they did not believe in college athletics. Even when Rice won the College World series the students could care less and did not attend.

Yeah? Well, in 2017, my husband and I had to sit through a long, angry commencement speech from former vice president Joe Biden. Top THAT!

Robert Conquest had his laws of politics. #2 and #3 are applicable here:

“Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.”

“The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.”

. Top THAT

You win the award for the most despicable (recent) commencement. Unless Obummer or his spouse give one.

Long ago in New Orleans listening to football game scores on the radio we always hoped that one day there would be a Red Beans University that would play Rice.

We were telling corny dad jokes in the 5th grade.

Which is precisely why conservatives always lose in the long run. It’s a lost cause.

I dare say the are few IF ANY colleges that aren’t infected. Our education system is toxic.

I drove about 1200 miles to listen to Chuck Schumer at Syracuse — has to be at least a tie.

The problem is that “conservatives” in these large institutions are busy “conserving” the latest leftist victories.

To win you need to have your own agenda and then ruthlessly follow Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

The reason—when you are out of power you must become a Radical in your tactics to get back power.

Otherwise you are just consolidating the gains of your enemy.

Texas (!) university blows it at commencement ceremony

Four paragraphs in, and as yet no mention of anything having to do with a "blown" commencement ceremony.

FAIL!

I don't know how we can get around that. Leftists are busybodies by nature. They love getting into everybody's business and destroying all the joy in life.

Conservatives are tolerant people who couldn't care less what others are doing. They just want to be left along to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

They'd rather be spending their weekends grilling in their backyards, watching football or going fishing

Leftists are way more civically active. They attend all the town meetings, school board meetings, etc. They like to paint signs and go to protests where they can loudly shout other people down. My HOA meetings at my condo are like this. These are the folks that want to ban flags in windows, make SUV owners park outside the complex, fine people for leaving Christmas wreaths on their doors after January 6th. Anything they can do to control the lives of other people, they are for. They live for this stuff.

I attended an HOA meeting once and never went back again. Those shouting hyenas gave me a headache.

Ouch! That is just terrible. Graduation should be a glorious day and the school administrators allow a narcissist nincompoop to ruin it.

I didn’t even attend my own college graduation ceremony. I was completely broke and didn’t want to spend the money for cap and gown rental.

And I was physically done with all my courses a couple weeks before graduation ceremony. And had no job lined up - so set out around my home town to find employment.

Sitting with a couple thousand other graduates, that I did not know, in a giant area just seemed anti-climactic. Not sorry to this day, that I missed it.
