Major Trucking Firms Prepare for “Imminent Diesel Shortage in Eastern Half of US” – Blame Emergency on Joe Biden

Trucking firms are warning employees of an “imminent fuel shortage in the Eastern half of the US.”

Trucking insiders are blaming this shortage on Joe Biden’s move to divert US fuel to Europe so they can ween off Russian oil.

Like Joe Biden’s other reckless policies, this will create havoc here in the United States.

Zero Hedge reported:

Major trucking fleets across the eastern half of the US are preparing for an “imminent” diesel shortage, according to logistics firm FreightWaves.

Founder and CEO of FreightWaves Craig Fuller said “3 very large fleets” are preparing for diesel pumps at fuel stations to run dry. Drivers of these fleets received notifications about fuel shortages that could materialize in the coming weeks across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

The trucking fleets are blaming the shortage on Joe Biden’s latest action to divert US fuel to Europe so they can ween off Russian oil.

Another Biden blunder. Not only is diesel gas at its highest price ever, but now there are shortages in the eastern half of the US.

This crisis will affect everyone.

I thing the diesel shortage is being hyped.

I read yesterday that diesel stocks on the east coast usually are maintained at 64 million units (barrels?) and are currently at 54 million.

Also I saw this today... Asia has too much diesel and it’s likely headed to Europe

Everything is not about politics. Geology does not care about politics.

US oil is increasingly shale. Shale is “LTO”. Light Tight Oil. The tightness is low permeability requiring fracking to artificially create permeability, and light means API specification of density.

The lighter you are, the less middle distillate you will have (these are kerosene (jet fuel) and diesel).

As an example, an offshore production area/rig in the Gulf of Mexico is called Thunderhorse. It produces a few hundred thousand barrels of crude per day.

It has roughly 2X the diesel content per barrel than Bakken shale oil. It isn’t fracked. The GoM has good permeability rock.

The rock did not get designed per GOP or DNC desires. It doesn’t care about politics.

Bakken shale oil has an API of 43. The higher that number, the lower the density (the lighter it is). Thunderhorse is about 31.

US oil pumps 11.X million barrels/day. It has never been higher than 12.X in about 2019 and it was struggling to get that high then.

The US burns/consumes 21 mbpd. There was NEVER “energy independence” in the only thing that matters — oil. Those declarations of independence were contorted definitions involving natural gas liquids, condensates, outright nat gas and coal itself. You don’t carry food on a diesel powered truck to a grocery store shelf using coal. That other stuff is rather a lot less important than diesel.

So Biden obstructs production of US diesel? Maybe he does. The dirty little secret is that it does not matter. He could be the most super duper pro oil guy possible and it would not matter.

There is not enough and there is no answer.

This is what happens when the Green New Deal BS is met with reality.

Trucks and Tractors don’t run on Wind Mills, Solar Panels or Bio Fuels, they run on good old fashion diesel.

There are a lot of folks that would be perfectly at home here on FR, in the Northeast. Not everyone up there is a liberal democrat. Nassau and Suffolk Counties, in NY, are pretty Republican places, as it almost all of upstate. Problem with NY is that 4 or 5 cities run everything. Much the same way it happens in California, Washington, Illinois, and other states.

So yeah, I don’t wish my extremely conservative brother and his family to suffer anything you narrow minded fool.

The Republican Governors in the oil producing states should just tell CornPop to pound sand and start drilling.

What’s he gonna do? Send in the FBI or US Marshals in to lock up Abbott. I’m betting the Texas Rangers, Texas DPS, and Texas Guard might have an issue with that.

You know, for a guy who calls himself the US President (when he can remember who he is at all) he sure seems to be concerned with the well being of a lot of folks other than US citizens.

Gosh, it's almost like someone else, someone who doesn't give a rat's backside about the US or her citizens is really in charge and pulling the strings. Rampant inflation, shortages... This isn't build back better, this is break, bereave, and blow.

The “Hunt’s Point Express” that delivers California produce to NYC is going to grind to a halt if the truckers can’t be sure of getting fuel to make the return trip.

My 60 year old brother is a medium haul trucker and has driven over a million miles. He has parked his truck and will not be hauling under these conditions. His house is paid for and he has savings. He is not alone.

He told me if there is something I depend on, buy it now as many many truckers are quietly quitting . And there are no replacements coming.

“We are witnessing a failed Presidency and all it’s consequences.”

It’s not a failed presidency. It’s a failed usurpation.

“He told me if there is something I depend on, buy it now”

That is always excellent advice—relying on long supply lines to easily replenish supplies has always been a dubious strategy.

The word is ASSAY. Oil types are assayed to determine API and constituent yields.

Venezuela has oil near the north shoreline and they have quietly been increasing production and are up to about 500Kbpd. Iran hauls it and markets it. The Chinese have built them a state of the art refinery so Venezuela generally has plenty of fuel.

The big reserves quoted for Ven are in the Orinoco river areas. It is very low API. Very thick and heavy. Essentially more difficult to process than even Canada’s oil sands.

US policy towards Venezuela has destroyed any possible relationship with them forever. They will always be more interested in their proven friends, Russia and China.

They elect the Chavez and Maduro types because the poor get bribed. So what? US subgroups get bribed too. Venezuela chooses the govt they have and the US has insulted and abused them to the point no other choice will ever happen.

So . . . eventually the US will have to try to liberate those barrels of crude, and then steal them.

Here in CT I live in a small town that voted for President Trump—twice.

There are still signs supporting him that can be found on the country roads.

We are far from the “civilized” areas, and we like it that way.

Venezuela has the largest total hydrocarbon system on the planet. It is primarily ultra heavy oil and asphalitic heavy oils in sands, sandstones and marls. Total hydrocarbons in place is estimated at 1.2 trillion bbl oil equivalent. Of that 30% is believed to be technically recoverable by any means regardless of economics. The economically recoverable is less obviously. Heavy oils can be cracked with additional hydrogen to smaller C=C,X-Files chains with diesel and kerosene being in the hydrocrackers range with the right catalysts half could be in the diesel range. So yes Venezuela is the King of the hydrocarbon resources especially when diesel is the desired product. There is a reason the Gulf Coast refineries are set up to receive and process sour heavy crudes be them from.Saudi or Venezuela both produce more diesel per bbl than WTI which makes napthas and LPG plus condensate.
