It’s been likened to school starting after a long summer’s break. After two years, The White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) has returned to D.C.
The event featured “a diverse group” of attendees to include Trevor Noah headlining after the two-year hiatus as well as Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson’s Red Carpet debut. Oh, the joy. Melinda French Gates, Martha Stewart, Sophia Bush and Drew Barrymore were also in attendance.
The event, often dubbed “Nerd Prom” was much anticipated after it’s two-year break with much buzz across the beltway. Side note: Honestly, why they call it the “Nerd Prom” is beyond me. It’s an insult to nerds. To call this a “Nerd Prom” would be implying there was some small amount of intellect here. Many commented on the event of the evening-one that has been organized to commemorate the “important” contribution journalists have to this “democracy” of ours. (I think I just gagged). Here is what some of them said:
So here’s one of the few good things about the WHCD: It recognizes good student journalists and brings a handful of them to the dinner. I teach in the journalism school at NYU and student journalists do a lot of important work that gets picked up by major outlets (sometimes with no credit). Recognizing the real work they do is one of the better things the correspondents’ association does.
