Billionaire Elon Musk has revealed part of his plan for Twitter’s future if his bid to become its new owner is successful as expected.
The revelation came in response to a tweet from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who said that all users should verify their name and identity.
“I hope @elonmusk will insist that all Twitter posters use their real names & not be keyboard cowards hiding behind silly little sophomoric screen names. Be man enough or woman enough (if you even know what that is) to stand by what you say! If you can’t own it don’t say it,” the former governor said.
The tweet caught the attention of Musk who has spoken about authenticating Twitter users in the past.
“Authentication is important, but so is anonymity for many. A balance must be struck,” he said.
Musk got some pretty broad agreement on the idea.
“Yes! Some people with large accounts have to use burners because using a verified account to talk on certain issues is risky in this current climate of oversensitivity,” one user said.

Mike Huckabee has his own security.
That’s what I was thinking as well. They’ll pitch it like it’s to get rid of bots and keep people polite.
But it will really go down like you say.
Nice!
Huckabee can’t help being an idiot. But in this case he’s right. Because the First Amendment explicitly states that you can have free speech only if you first identify yourself to every lunatic in the world.
Oh, wait. The 1A doesn’t say that at all.
Mike is wrong.
Hey Mike, why not ban secret voting too...
In the 18th Century, without anonymity how would today be different? The authors of the Federalist Papers ysed psedonyms.
This guy is on our side?
Mike Huckabee, the Christian candidate, doesn’t know what the h*ll he’s asking for.
Clearly knows jack-squat about concepts involved.
No. He never really was.
“This guy is on our side?”
Yes - totally.
Huckabee is a smart guy - he’s got to know that anonymity is important.
I have to believe he is just trolling the enemy here.
The Left uses anonymous sources and hides behind fake screen names - while at the same time doxxing the Right and calling us cowards for doing the exact same thing.
Huckabee is just returning fire and calling the Leftists cowards.
Anonymous posting is critical, but there is a case for validating identity to keep bots and foreign actors under control. Problem is, I would not trust Twitter to protect the identity info - 100% chance we’d see names leaked to the lapdog press.
Twitter bringing Huckabee and Antifa/BLM together.
Nothing wrong with screen names.
Ben Franklin if he was online today would be posting as Poor Richard or Silence Dogood.
Unless you want to hunt somebody down and punish them for what they said.
I think the point of screen names is to keep from being hunted down don’t you? 😉
