When Vladimir Putin declared that a primary objective of Russia’s invasion was to “de-nazify” Ukraine, the political elites and their media went ballistic. Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia, said flatly, “There are no neo-Nazis in Ukraine.” The truth? The CIA has been organizing, funding, and training Nazis and developing fascist assets inside Ukraine for 75 years. Nazis are a powerful and growing presence.
In 2014, the CIA and U.S. State Department engineered a coup that overthrew Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s democratically elected pro-Russian president. The United States replaced him with a pro-American, anti-Russian president—and the Nazification of Ukraine kicked into high gear. Well-funded, highly trained, and heavily armed neo-Nazi militias that had appeared almost overnight to stage the coup unleashed terror upon ethnic Russians and political opponents of the new regime.
Since then, Democrats and Republicans have empowered and enabled neo-Nazis to infest all levels of Ukrainian government and society. Nazi influence has only grown stronger during the presidency of Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ukrainian Nazism has deep historical roots. While 4.5 million Ukrainians fought in the Red Army to defeat the Nazis, many Ukrainian fascists and anti-Semites collaborated with the Germans in World War II. One in every four Jewish victims of the Holocaust—some 1.5 million people—was murdered in Ukraine.
The celebration and glorification of Nazi collaborators and murderers of Jews pervade Ukraine today. Many cities have statues and streets named after them. The birthday of Stepan Bandera, Ukraine’s leading German collaborator of World War II and father of Ukrainian Nazism, is celebrated as a national holiday.
Ukraine is saturated with Nazi militias, organizations, and political parties. Desecration of Holocaust memorials and parades honoring World War II Nazi German dead are regular events. Children are taught to hate and kill ethnic Russians at indoctrination camps.

Are there Nazis in Ukraine? If so, it’s a minor point, and does not justify Putin’s invasion.
The same applies to Iraq. Saddam was an evil person who had evil followers. And he did evil things. But that did not justify Bush II’s bloody invasion of the country. We are not the world’s moral police, and neither is Putin.
Bush II is a war criminal. So is Putin.

The important thing to understand is what the Russian’s mean by the word Nazi.
Nazi to them means non-Communist. In the Cold War the USA were Nazis so was any anti-communist resistance movement in Eastern Europe.
It’s the same definition that Antifa uses.
I notice how we neatly avoid any mention of the 9 million Ukrainians deliberately starved to death (that is to say: murdered) by Stalin and his henchmen in the late 1920's & early 1930's.
When people have been victimized to that extent, it's pretty easy to fall into the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" fallacy.
I doubt many will take the time to actually learn about the politics and history of the region. But watch at least the first 30-40 minutes of this video (Thaddeus Russell with Scott Ritter) to gain some understanding of what is really going on over there.

Up until last year, the msm regularly ran pieces on the Ukrainian NAZIs. Some were in-depth profiles of the leaders, past and present. They had many pictures of the present day NAZIs, swastikas and all.
At the start of this war, many msm pieces made excuses for them, things like (paraphrasing) “Yes, they’re white supremacists, and yes, they use NAZI paraphernalia, and yes, they hate jews, but they’re not really that bad.” For real. I may dreg some up and post them, just for the denialists here.
The CIA has been arming and training them for years, and still are. They have bases there, and in Poland, where they train them on our (!) latest hardware, then turn them loose. Switchblade drones, anti tank platforms, latest and greates.
Russia has been hitting the CIA training facilities in Ukraine, to great effect, so they’ve moved most of the training across the borders.
These are facts, available for anyone to see, who cares to look. Denying it os pretty silly, and something the left would do. Surprised to see so many here in the denial camp. It’s not going away.
White Supremacists? In a country that is all white? Against another country that is basically all white?

All of that (or most of that) was vs the Soviets, which was a GOOD THING!
The Soviets were the global problem of the last half of the 20th century, bar none. Anything went, and that too was a good thing.

The target in that area of the world has mostly been Jews.
Ukraine was completely under the Soviet totalitarian state for the first 45 of those years, so this is quite a stretch.
However, Russians killed off 5 million Ukrainians only 90 years ago, so it is understandable that some Ukrainians saw the Germans as liberators.
Stephan Bander fought the Soviets, cooperated and was jailed by the NAZIs. He was later murdered by The Soviets in Germany, I understand.
In reality, both the NAZIs and the Soviets were guilty of enourmous war crimes against humanity.
But only the NAZIs were held to account.

I understand, it’s just a term of approbation now, with no real foundation in ideology.
What better way to show your opposition to Russian influence than to take on the visuals of their boogieman?
