Hawley endorses Thiel-backed Arizona Senate candidate

Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley is endorsing Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters, flexing his muscle in a high-profile Republican primary and cementing a new ideological alliance shaping the midterm election.

Hawley — who is widely regarded as a prospective 2024 presidential contender — has now thrown his support to two of the most outspoken Republican populists running for Senate this year: Masters and Ohio Republican J.D. Vance. In both cases, Hawley is inserting himself into competitive primaries and backing candidates with notably anti-political establishment rhetoric and ideology.

The Missouri Republican lavished praise on Masters in a statement to be released Monday, saying he “understands the threats our country faces — from the Chinese Communist Party to the corrupt Big Tech monopolies to the political elite determined to take apart our way of life,” and adding: “We need new leaders who will fight for this country.”

Masters is running in a competitive primary that also features state Attorney General Mark Brnovich, wealthy solar energy executive Jim Lamon, and retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Mick McGuire. While former President Donald Trump has endorsed Vance, he has yet to declare his support for a candidate in the Arizona primary, which is set for Aug. 2. Trump, however, recently said he would be endorsing in the race “in the not too distant future.”

I don’t like it. Too young and ambitious. Up in ‘24 and runs for POTUS after only one term? He needs to stay in the senate. Those seats are too hard to keep and 2 terms is not asking too much. Florida has a good bench for when DeSantis takes the leap. Missouri not so.

Obama mentality. I don’t think O even made it to senate re-election before running for potus. Hawley won’t get the Obama treatment from the press. He also clerked for John Roberts.

A bit more animated than DSeSantis, but a firecracker he is not.
No shot at POTUS.

Senator’s work for the State, right?
Get your state in order first.

For me it’s between Masters and Lamon but the fact that Lamon is involved in solar makes me a bit hesitant about him, I don’t know about how he would be on China.

I don’t see why a first term senator from MO would even be endorsing candidates in other states. A few sound bites and he has clout?

I haven’t followed the candidates in the Arizona race, since I thought Brnovich would be the nominee. But he turned out to be a “drag your feet instead of doing anything real” type so it’s good to hear some insight into other candidates.

Brnovich was in on the Big Steal, if he gets elected he’d be another McCain/Flake fake Republican.

I never heard of Hawly as “widely regarded as a prospective 2024 presidential contender”. This is a Politico article and Politico if famous for half truths and articles whose sole purpose to to instil infighting in the GOP.

No way on earth would I vote for Brnovich after his inaction on the fraud issue. Lamon is backed by Border Patrol, Masters is very intellectual and that might keep him from voter favor. The guy is incredibly bright.

Exactly. Going with Lake and Masters. Already have Paul Gosar as my congressman.

To be fair Missouri is in much better shape then Arizona. Arizona has two blue senators. Missouri? None.

I generally like Hawley and I support both JD Vance and Blake Masters.

I don’t know why Hawley is against Greitens in Missouri. Greitens seems like a good candidate who was crookedly railroaded as Governor by a corrupt Soros DA.

I hope Hawley doesn’t run for POTUS. He’s the best Republican in the senate IMO. We need more like him.
