Democrats recently released plans to fight âOnline Misinformationâ that featured a blueprint for online censorship. Congressional Democrats, however, have sponsored or co-sponsored at least 18 Big Tech bills with Republicans. That combination raises huge questions about their actual goals and could undermine bipartisan support.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) published its âRecommendations for Combating Online Misinformation,â which stated that social media companies âstill have much to do to reduce the spread of disinformation.â The document featured a 14-point plan to solve the issue of the supposed spread of disinformation.
The plan urged companies to â[p]romote authoritative news over highly engaging news in content algorithms,â to â[e]nforce a comprehensive political misinformation policyâ and to â[e]nforce rules on hate speech consistently and comprehensively.â
The DNCâs last recommendation, â[e]stablish a policy against the distribution of hacked materials,â is especially alarming. Big Tech companies interfered with the 2020 presidential election by censoring the incriminating scandals of then-candidate Joe Bidenâs son Hunter. Twitter falsely claimed Hunterâs laptop information was âhackedâ material.
Internet Accountability Project founder and president Mike Davis exclusively told MRC Free Speech America that the âsolution to misinformation is more free speech.â Davis explained, âWhile leftists want to censor and de-platform those deemed problematic to their interests ⦠A competition of ideas will lead to a more informed American public. Silencing one sideâs political opposition leads down a dangerous road. In China, the communist government has complete control over news and informationâthis is the logical conclusion of the effort by so-called âprogressivesâ to censor those with whom they disagree.â
Davis added, âThankfully, both sides can agree that Big Tech is too big and too unaccountable, and they must be broken up and reined in for the good of the American consumer, economy and national security.â Davis said serious disagreements on censorship shouldnât harm progress on bipartisan issues âsuch as antitrust modernization and enforcement.â Davis ended, âUltimately, a more competitive Big Tech industry will produce more options for those who value free speech.â
The DNC openly admitted a partnership between social media platforms and the Democrat Party in the recommendations. âThe DNC is working with major social media companies to combat platform manipulation and train our campaigns on how best to secure their accounts and protect their brands against disinformation,â the plan said. âSocial media companies are ultimately responsible for combating abuse and disinformation on their systems, but as an interested party, weâve compiled this comparative policy analysis to present social media companies with additional potential solutions.â [Emphasis added].
Through these recommendations, the DNC has starkly defined itself as pro-censorship. Meanwhile, House and Senate Democrats sponsored or cosponsored at least 18 social media or tech app-related bills introduced in 2021 or 2022, according to MRC Free Speech America research.
In many cases, apparently pro-free speech bills may prove potentially anti-free speech upon closer look. For example, the bipartisan Open App Markets Act prevents a âcovered companyâ from imposing certain restrictions on apps, except if the companyâs action is allegedly ânecessary to achieve user privacy, security, or digital safety.â Bill co-sponsors Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), along with the DNCâs content moderation manifesto, claim that so-called âmisinformationâ online is dangerous, a warning sign for free speech.
Prominent leftist Big Tech critic Klobuchar has called multiple times for increased online censorship. Blumenthal, another major figure in recent tech reform efforts, and Sens. Ed Markey (D-MA) and John Hickenlooper (D-CO) have endorsed increased censorship as well.
Isn’t this Unconstitutional?
“Isn’t this Unconstitutional?”
Not in Rainbiw-flag Cartel Party country.
If there’s anything good about demoncrats I have yet to find it.
Subhuman scum. One and all. I used to think there were some okay moderate dems but now I know anyone who votes dem, even one, is no good. Anti-American scumsucking garbage.
Russia under Stalin:
1. Show trials of innocents. (January 6th accused)
2. Incarceration with out bail. (January 6th accused)
3. Control of the media. (The main stream media does it by choice but with direction from The State. They have become one and the same.
4. Night raids by the FBI on innocents. (KGB tactics)
But most importantly is a total state mechanism of police and judiciary carrying out the agenda that is unlawful. It is all about control by the elite left deep state.
Seig heil.
Online Misinformation ... how Orwellian.
Slides 9 and 10 on page 34 of Operation Dark Winter Script, the high level pandemic exercise the gov ran over 20 years ago with John Hopkins, the same that ran Event 201 in Oct of 2019 with the WEF and Bill Gates. When Biden said “Dark Winter, Dark Winter” in the debate with Pres Trump, that was the signal to put the plan into action. Legislation and Penalties for Dangerous Misinformation is Slide 9 and 10, page 34.
What gets me is the underlings that will carry this stuff out when ordered by their superiors. It makes me wonder how many law enforcement officers will stand up for us against the unconstitutional policies being enacted by governors and the Deep State. We are in very real danger here folks.
Classic - That’s why I love FR
I will answer that question for you. Damn few.
I believe it. It is scary.
Democrats should be banned from voting or holding any office. They are simply not worthy or sane enough for either one.
This is very bad. We’re already getting censored enough to add, perhaps, 6 points to dem elections. Any worse and it will be dicey if we can save this country.
We’re almoat the tipping point, and the marxists know it. Just one more nudge...
All it would take is maybe 18 months of 2x the current censorship, and the dems would never lose again. And it would be all downhill to communism.
