A couple recent episodes of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard featured Starfleet crew members traveling back in time to present day to beat up U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, free a busload of illegal immigrants on their way to be deported, and lecture that racism just “took off a hood and put on a suit” in the early 21st Century.
Traveling back to 2024 Earth to help save the future of humanity in season two, episode four of the show, titled The Watcher, the crew specifically heads to downtown Los Angeles to achieve their mission. After Captain Cristobal Rios (Santiago Cabrera) becomes injured, the Hispanic character finds himself at a medical clinic that specializes in treating illegal immigrants and others, like him, who lack identification.
Caught up in an ICE raid on the clinic, Rios is detained and brought to a detention facility to await processing and deportation. When fellow crew mates Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) show up at the medical facility looking for Rios, a nurse tells them: “Yeah, he was here. The doctor patched him up before ICE officers raided us....You know those assholes.” Seven chimes in: “Yeah, I feel like I do.” The nurse ominously adds: “But your friend, I hope you find him soon. Before ICE makes sure you never do.”

A man sitting in the waiting area of the police station warns them:
Piece of advice, LAPD won’t have ICE detainees in their system, you want Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Look, you’re in the wrong place. Not that it makes any difference because if you don’t get to Cristobal before he’s transferred, gone. No trial, no paper trail.

Seen both but prefer the original despite its problems.
Reimagined took a while to win me over.
Every now and then some TOS. There is the animated series from the 70s that isn’t half bad.
Yup....they started it at the end of Picard Season 1. They have not done too much with it this season...yet.
Yes. Picard would have been a salty old sailor.
Both have problems. The original was light hearted, as if the entire human race having been just wiped out was no big deal. The reimagined series had a ton of plot holes, however, and darker. I could write a book explaining my likes and dislikes. But the former wins.
Star Trek was always a reflection of Gene Roddenberry’s ultra-far-left politics. It has always been a way for him to promote Communism and it needs to die.
Being an ICE agent is an awful job. I wish these affluent pukes had to do it for a few weeks to walk in the shoes of those they disrespect.
Isn’t it funny how communists always need to promote their ideas using something else as bait? “Appearances can be deceiving”, said Agent Smith. I think Jesus said something similar. The devil is not the evil looking caricature that most perceive him as. He is something more appealing, just like his lying nature makes him. That’s why so many people are fooled.
True. Star Trek was always political. What’s considered liberal or progressive changed over time. Roddenberry changed with it when he was alive. Maybe he’d object to what the franchise has become. Maybe he wouldn’t.
And I am still waiting for Ricardo Montal-Khaaaan to take over most of the Earth in the Corinthian Leather war.
Very clever, LOL!
I think he’d support it.
Cut the cable, folks. These people will put you in a camp, then an oven and you have to stop paying their salary. Starve the beast.
True, the flip phone was a marvel of it’s time. I was just buying a new phone last week, the store had a small variety of flip phones. The manager said there are some people who won’t give them up.
I wonder how much modern medical equipment was inspired by TOS?
I should have said first kiss between a black person and a white person.
But hey,Desi was Cuban, therefore Hispanic, therefore Caucasian! See, I can twist logic just like the Wokester Left.
Not like that is anything to be proud of.
I had read years back that a medical company was trying to make a medical tricorder. Im not sure if they succeeded.
Yeah, anyone not black is now considered white, and therefore OK to discriminate against. Liberal logic. See, I can do it too!
My Father-in-Law loves his flip phone.
Ask “plugs” Biden about baldness cures.
My Mom loves her flip phone as well.
Can’t get her to change.
I doubt they could beat up a small chihuahua.
