“I believe the Germans put 5,000 tanks into that battle while the Russians had 7,000. The Russians has 12,000 more on the way.”

What’s more, the Russians knew they Germans were coming, and where. Some German had the battle plan on him when his plane crashed, and the Russians got to the crash site first.

Don’t think that is accurate. A lot of reporting on Kursk was propaganda up to the fall of Soviet Union.

Germany had about 2k tanks, called off their attack on the Soviet defenses in depth after a week, and Russia launched a counter attack. It wasn’t really a tank versus tank attack to begin with, it was tanks versus fortified in depth defenses...

Part of the reason for calling off the attack, besides not breaking thru, was the need to send forces to Italy.

However, it was a huge fight, and saw Germany’s largest expenditure of ammunition during the course of the war so far.

Whatever the clown DC insider analysts declare on US mainstream media - its highly likely the Russians will do the opposite.

Had.

NBC reporter Carl Quintanilla caused quite a stir when he tweeted that Ukraine had lost 91% of their tanks.

“Don’t think that is accurate.”

It’s true. But the Russians had known about the German plans (Operation Citadel) for some time, as British Intelligence knew about it and gave that information to the Soviets. The plane crash was true, and one of the dead occupants was carrying Citadel material. That just added some confirmation.

Not as detailed to my eye. But is very hard to find someone who speaks Russian and English that does not have some sort of accent. What they know depends on their personal sources in a large measure.

The media gives the impression that Ukraine has lost just a teeny bit of their resources.

Th veracity of that claim has been questioned as the source is unknown.

I watched the video. Not having any experience regarding air support for ground combat, I refer to you which is more air support effective.

Are you aware of GLONASS? It’s the Russian equivalent to GPS. Accuracy for GLONASS is slightly less than GPS unless you are in high latitudes. It can also be better than GPS in built up areas. They also use LORAN C for ground operations.

"Russia doesn’t have access to GPS satellites. They must do everything with map and compass."

Really? I thought any modern country had access to GPS.

Russia has its own GPS GLONASS.

How good is it compared to GPS? Good question!

Russia is not behind in the GPS arena in any way.

The Ukrainians are going to be squashed like cockroaches. This has been coming for weeks while the idiots in the media focused on Kiev, which the Russians weren’t even thinking of invading.

Map and compass or charts and darts can work pretty well.

I was in a Reserve 8” bn in a Guard FA bde, 2x155mm SP bns, 2x105mm towed bns, we shot 5 or 6 times a year using chart tables with range deflection protractors, charge sticks and firing tables, FOs with radios, field phones from FDC to the batteries and we were fast and accurate.

I was in S-3/FDC and got to watch a bde TOT once, very impressive.

True that, but is the SU-25 REALLY the equal of the A-10?

Well we could get some orcs in some t-80s say, and make 2 lines - then have a UA pilot and a USAF pilot make runs with the orcs shooting back. Winner gets to keep the tanks or airplane. Surviving orcs get free ice cream.

But if you are thinking of the Hwy of Death - don’t - there was no battle damage recorded for the A-10s actions - the only damages assessed came from other planes.

I was talking about the number of tanks involved. Not the battle.
