Florida Governor Calls for Special Session; Supports Constitutional Carry
AmmoLand ^ | March 31, 2022 | Dean Weingarten

On March 29, 2022, Florida Governor DeSantis held a press conference. At about 6:30 minutes, he announced he vetoed the Congressional district map put forward by the Florida legislature.  He took questions after his announcements. There was a question about other issues. Governor Desantis responded. From thefloridachannel.org, here is a transcript:

I would love to have property insurance. I would love to have data privacy. I would love to have Constitutional Carry. There’s a lot of great things. But you know we just went through a legislative session where they failed to deliver on some of those priorities, and so what I will do, I will ask the legislative leaders if there is something you can get across the finish line, and I will encourage them to do that. Because I think there is a lot of key things they could do.

That is a possibility. The initial call will just be for the Congressional map, but is absolutely possible, that when we actually convene, when they actually convene for the Special Session, that you could see additional issues raised there.

Florida Representative Anthony Sabatini tweeted that Governor DeSantis is calling a Special Legislative Session to pass Constitutional Carry:

BREAKING:

@GovRonDeSantis

is calling a Special Legislative Session to pass Constitutional Carry

The tweet by Representative Sabatini is rather optimistic, it appears. The answer to the question was at the press conference. Governor DeSantis merely stated Constitutional Carry would be a bonus; the main purpose was to have a new Congressional map. Governor DeSantis mentioned the actual proclamation had not been completed.

There is a slim chance Constitutional Carry will pass in the Special Session.

The outspoken support by Governor DeSantis is good news.

This, and sticking it to the pedos at Disney would be great accomplishments.

It’s too hot to comfortably conceal down here, especially if you have a tactical shelf.

He’s smart, so I doubt he would do this without knowing the outcome.

Spectrum News Asher Wildman @AsherWildman13 So far in 2022 Alabama, Ohio, and Indiana have passed Constitutional Carry. @AnthonySabatini hopes Florida during a special session could be next. @MyNews13

Any info available as to how this has worked out for Alabama, Ohio, and Indiana? From what I have been reading the real effect of this is to no longer require a CCW permit in order to carry a firearm concealed on your person in Florida.

My concern is how this is going to play out when we now have a major population increase fueled by illegal immigration. If you aren't going to require any sort of permit to conceal carry, then anyone and everyone will be doing so. As currently is the case, you must show citizenship status to obtain the CCW permit.

So although permitting flies in the face of "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" in the U.S. Constitution, permitting provides some sort of filter in these times of deliberately open borders and a runaway federal government.

The founding fathers did not anticipate the feds acting against the citizens and allowing the country to be rampantly overrun by border-jumping hordes. The latest estimate from the CBP is that due to Biden's failure to extend Covid-19 restrictions put in place by Trump, illegal entries are going to reach over 8,000 per day.

Do we want these hordes having the freedom to conceal carry in Florida?

I would also want to see FULL carry legalized, as in: “Anyone with the right to be armed with a gun ALSO has the right to carry a knife, baton, pepper spray, etc, and have the right to use them in defense of self and lived ones”.

The right to keep and bear ARMS encompasses ALL tools of self defense.

Florida is actually one of the lesser friendly states for carry outside of concealed. We allow open carry only going to and from an outdoor activity such as fishing, hunting, or camping. Otherwise LEOs are on the lookout for even light printing.

Said it before and saying it again;

We in Florida want him to stay right where he’s at. The penultimate battle is States v FedGov. Every State should put forth a strong conservative governor and state legislature in this battle.

POTUS is too often crippled by the house, Senate and entrenched leftists. Take over the first two, then eradicate the latter and maybe, just maybe fedgov will stand for the people. Until then, our governor needs to continue to fight where he is. Every State should take this position.

Ron as POTUS will NOT solve the problems in leftist States. Each State must do this within their own borders, with their own constituents.

"Normally, I am not a fan of Yalies, but Ron is a great exception."

Yeah.. As much as I dislike the idea of yet another blasted lawyer in the white house, I think I'm liking DeSantis for the job more every day..

Trump, the businessman, was exactly what we needed at the time and he did a wonderful job.. And I think he could do it again. But, I do like DeSantis a lot, and I do believe he would be more electable..

And I think Ron better start tighten up his security because the "one worlders" are getting bolder by the day...

All the laws include wording that individuals must be otherwise legal to carry, so no, an illegal alien, or a convicted felon, or someone on a restraining order, for examples, would still be prohibited.

Truth in advertising clause - I am NOT a licensed attorney.

If Constitutional Carry passes in Florida, that may just tip me over the edge to leaving Hellinois and leaving everything but my weapons behind.

To hell with everything I "own" here, I'd be ready to full-on start over completely and rebuild from scratch.

Go Gov. DeSantis Go!

I'm ready to flip Hellinois the bird, leave it in my rear-view mirror and move.

And here I just dropped a wad of cash to join ASC.

I hate this state with a passion. Florida's got it exactly right. Hellinois sucks eggs.
