China imports 95 million metric tons of soybeans, though recently less from us. More soybeans in the market helps China (lowers prices) but hurts Mexico (big-time corn foods eaters).

Any politician who loves Hispanics as much as he says he does will get rid of ethanol mandates and their harmful effects --- in more ways than one.

Perhaps a bit of fear porn going on ... then again, if it isn’t clear to anyone who is paying even a shred of attention that the Democrat/Communist Party is doing everything and anything it can — day in and day out — to destroy our Republic, then it will never be clear to them. This is as blatant as it gets ....

You/I might view this as preventable.
They want this. It is their goal.

Less feed for beef, pork, chickens. Means lowering supply of these animals and further raising the cost of meat. Talk about a double whammy with inflation already full bore in the market.

On the bright side people can just start eating more soy burgers I guess.

Alfalfa, like soy, is a legume that requires little fertilizer, and it makes good livestock feed, at least for cattle.

I wish someone would tell the Republicans this. They seem oblivious to the threat and what to do about it.

It is way past time to stop turning corn into ethanol to be burned as an expensive, polluting, net energy consuming fuel. That will ease some cost pressure on both fuel and food.

It’s a formidible challenge to get through to even a politician (that is, a person we don’t expect much from, especially intellect and wisdom) whose political calculations do not align with moral principles such as giving their oath (or at least their campaign promise) to protect our Constitution and to defend our Repubic.

It is simply inexcusable that the US imports a single bucket of nat gas....from anywhere. Other than water, nat gas is probably the single most used feedstock for almost all chemical processes, and that’s before we use one fartload of it for fuel. I’m OK importing potash from Canada but nitrogen fertilizer....no. Other than the ethanol scam, agriculture always seems to get the short end of the stick.

Alfalfa doesn’t produce grain, just hay.

You can get way more cattle nutrition from an acre of corn or beans than you can from an acre of alfalfa.

Grits have their origins with the American Indians who introduced them to the Pilgrims, way back when.

They've been around for a long time.

"Alfalfa, like soy, is a legume that requires little fertilizer, and it makes good livestock feed, at least for cattle."

Legumes actually make fertilizer, nitrogen fixation.

Where did you come up with that nonsense?

The level of E2 in animal protein is miniscule compared to birth control pills and many cruciferous vegetables.

We paid 50% more last week for triple 19 over last year. The struggle is real. This was already happening way before Ukraine; these jerks who love the high petroleum prices never think about how that affects fertilizer and plastic costs too. We will cover crop with vetch this fall...but all the other farmers will be thinking the same thing and the price of nitrogen fixing crop seeds will spike for demand :(
