Arizona man receives Citizens Award for saving a young girl from sexual assault

An Arizona man has been honored by the Phoenix Sheriff’s Office for restraining a man who was assaulting a teenage girl in downtown Phoenix last month.

On Feb. 11, a teenage girl was out to meet with her boyfriend downtown near Roosevelt Street when a man approached and grabbed her from behind, a surveillance video shared by the Phoenix PD showed.

That’s when bystander Josh Jones leaped to the girl’s defense by taking the suspect down and sitting on him until deputies arrived.

Phoenix did him right! If this had happened in many/most other cities, the guy would have been charged with a multitude of crimes.

Sloppy reporting. Phoenix doesn’t have a “sheriff’s department.” The agency in the story is Phoenix PD. The local sheriff’s department is Maricopa County— Sheriff Joe’s old agency.
