NOAA Warns US Megadrought Will Persist; May Impact Food Supply Chains

Abnormally dry to exceptional drought conditions are expected to persist across 60% of the continental U.S. as spring in the Northern Hemisphere begins. Forecasters expect little to no rain for certain parts of the western U.S. through June.

From April to June, above-average temperatures are expected from Southwest to the East Coast and north through the Midwest, according to a new outlook published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

NOAA’s map shows a greater than 50% chance of drought persistence for nearly 60% of the continental U.S.

“Severe to exceptional drought has persisted in some areas of the West since the summer of 2020, and drought has expanded to the southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley,” said Jon Gottschalck, chief, Operational Prediction Branch, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

 “With nearly 60% of the continental U.S. experiencing minor to exceptional drought conditions, this is the largest drought coverage we’ve seen in the U.S. since 2013,” Gottschalck said.

The outlook also noted more than 50% of the U.S. will experience above-average temperatures this spring, with the greatest chances in the Southern Rockies and Southern Plains.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, at least 90% of nine western states are plagued with dry conditions, including all of California, Nevada, and Utah, and 99% of New Mexico.

NOAA’s latest forecast doesn’t bode well for the western U.S. farm industry as it could very well suggest the multiyear mega-drought (one of the worst in 1,200 years) could begin to impact the U.S. food supply and comes at a very inopportune time as the Russian invasion of Ukraine has choked the world of natural resources.

The U.S. and world are careening towards a food crisis. Perhaps it’s time to plant a garden and become independent as national and global food supply chains may begin to breakdown.

If we are in a megadrought and we must be because the map is all colored red and yellow and hot colors like that, why is Colorado snowpack at 129% above normal. That does not sound so mega droughtish unless I put on my Al Gore, Global Warming glasses. Then when I do, it’s oh my gosh! We’re all gonna die! 129% above normal isn’t enough! Oh noes!

No drought here and I’m surrounded by springs. 1/4 mile down the road are two spring fed creeks from two different springs, both of which put out potable water. This will be one of the last places in the US to go dry.

Oh wait. Now I see. The map does not even have a color for excess precipitation so they just have to stick with the reds, yellows and oranges even when we are at 129% snow-pack. Why wouldn’t an objective map have any colors that represent higher than normal precipitation? Surely they would have a provision for that because this is science. right?

CA was emptying their dams of fresh water into the ocean. Anybody know why? I remember the article but not the particulars.

It was to create more habitat for a sucker fish called a snail darter.

God gifted us with a very well watered piece of property, too.

And the water is great, we’ve had it tested, and tastes good to boot.

The ONLY issue with our water is that it’s “moderately” hard.

So many places in NH have high levels of hardness, iron, radon, and arsenic. All that granite. But on occasion, you’ll find places like ours that have great water.

Let's interject a little Bible truth here.

2nd Chronicles 7:11-15, "Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected. And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place."

When people use this scripture, they take it totally out of context.

First, it's the Lord Who sends the drought, the locust and the pestilence.

Second, THEN if they humble themselves and pray, and seek Him, and TURN from their wicked ways, their sin,

Third, THEN He will hear.

Anyone want to wager a bet on that happening any time soon?

The NOAA also spreads fiction about "climate change". Who would believe anything coming from them about droughts?

Try the King James, more firm in its tone, and faithful translation, unlike The Message which is a terrible paraphrase.

Whoa, NOAA! Going pretty far back in history to make your case there.

NOAA lies about a lot of things. Mostly things they can relate to GlowbullClimateWarmingChange.

Sorry, no go. The food supply-chain disruption box is full for this month.

Try again next month.

The baitfish were something different. They were being saved but the farmers couldn’t get water in a certain reason. That was the story Hannity did a while back.

The reservoirs were something different
