Op-Ed: Zelenskyy and Trump Always Agreed on a Very Powerful Point
The Western Journal ^ | March 9, 2022 at 3:26pm | Ben Kerido

During the Obama era, corruption in Ukraine had become an issue of national (and even international) concern. So much so, in fact, that the people of Ukraine had finally had enough.

In May 2019, they elected Volodymyr Zelenskyy, an anti-corruption figure and political outsider, as president by a landslide margin of 73.2 percent, with a similar legislative snap victory immediately following.

Zelenskyy was a Jewish comedian and actor who, ironically, became famous by starring as the fictitious president of Ukraine in a popular television series. As promised during his campaign, he immediately got to work to clean up Ukraine and eradicate the widespread corruption. He sought to “restart the justice system,” remove legal immunity for parliament members and break up the oligarchs.

President Donald J. Trump noticed. Trump reached out to Zelenskyy to congratulate him on his party’s victories and discuss the efforts to combat corruption in what the 45th American president described as a “perfect call.” Zelenskyy shared how much he had learned from Trump and how he too was now “trying to work hard … to ‘drain the swamp’ here in our country [of Ukraine].

He did absolutely nothing about his big ass promises and conspired with that filth in DC. Or else they threatened him and paid him off.

That is why we are here today.

Thank you for posting this. Important to know Ukrainians were draining their swamp and this government had nothing to do with payoffs to the Biden’s.

A LOT of folks here are misinformed and have an anti Ukraine venom that is misplaced.

Putin is our enemy, and Biden’s weakness led to a disaster.

Ukraine and Zelensky are our friends.

I don't think this should be a contest about which leader or country we like better.

When I was in the Army I was prepared to go to war against soldiers from both countries, so I have no special affinity.

To me, this is real simple. Putin is running a war of aggression and conquest against a neighboring country. If he succeeds, instead of being a few hundred miles away, he will have Russian troops on the borders of Poland and Romania, two allies. He is upsetting the balance of power that has existed since the end of the Cold War. Ukraine, in contrast, has never threatened its neighbors.

It is in the United States' interest, especially from a national security perspective, that Ukraine stop Putin. I don't advocate military intervention or sending US troops, but there is still a lot we can do to help Ukraine and we should.

The reason this happened is because we have become an unserious country with too many people thinking politics is a team sport. My heart breaks for the Ukrainians and actually for the Russian people as well.
The Ukrainians will live through incredible devastation but they will come through this. The Russian people will live with shame of this destruction for decades.

Don’t forget that Zelensky was a big player in the Trump impeachment 1 saga by conspirng with the US deep state.

If he was an anti-corruption leader then why did he object to Trump’s request to investigatd Burisma amd hunter biden.

Unfortunately, Zelensky is not the paragon of virtue and good government. His opponent Tetyana Chornovol, was a Maidan revolutionary in 2014, and he had her arrested in April 2020 (on charges of murder).

Even so, he has now become a truly great war-time leader, often compared to Churchill, who was also far from perfect in many respects.

Defect your country regardless of the cost, and you become immortal, warts and all.

Zelensky, the 'Al Franken' of Ukraine.

Here is his 'diaper' and 'breast-cupping' moment...

I've been reading Zelensky is a Soros puppet, has put people who speak out against him in jail and put anti-aircraft guns on the roofs of hospitals and school.

I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT IS FACT VS. FICTION!

I occasionally run into Ukrainians at work. I'll start asking them what they think.

Prior to this, they all thought Putin would never do this
