Last year, when Twitter banned Donald Trump in an act of censorship, the media cheered.
CNN ran a column, "What if Twitter had banned Trump sooner?"
It was by Dean Obeidallah, a lawyer, who concluded, "I fully defend the free exchange of ideas. But it's abundantly clear that social media companies need to act far more swiftly in the future when people -- especially public figures with immense followings -- use their platforms to spread dangerous misinformation. If not, we may see even more deadly attacks by those radicalized by the lies of morally bankrupt social media users." No opposing view was showcased.
Vox said, "Kicking people off social media isn't about free speech."
And war is peace.
The New York Times said, "In Pulling Trump’s Megaphone, Twitter Shows Where Power Now Lies."
And as usual, NYT was wrong.
CBS reported on Friday, "Amid a crackdown on demonstrators and independent media outlets, the Kremlin blocked access to Facebook and Twitter on Friday.
"Russian telecommunications regulator, Roskomnadzor, said the decision to block Facebook was made in response to the platform's alleged discrimination against Russian media, citing 26 cases since October 2020."

“I fully defend the free exchange of ideas...”
Apparently not, Mr. Obedielah.
Or rather the script kiddies he hired to run his account are most vile.
He’s a piece of Mitt.
Whats a twitter?
That company is almost irrelevant now
Who is qualified to determine what is misinformation? Certainly NOT twitter. Actually, no one. The medical establishment is corrupt and cannot be trusted.
Twitter censoring content is essentially no different from the Soviet Union controlling the press. Twitter doesn’t appear to be the government - but it acts in close concert with the government. (Remember the photo of obammy meeting with the heads of the social media? What do you suppose they talked about? The color of the scroll bars?)
Haven't been on Twitter since January 2021.
I don’t use twitter...is it true that Putin still has an account?
“Misinformation” is a creepy new word, kind of like the phrase “our democracy”.
Misinformation, unlike “lies” or “disinformation” can mean whatever the user wants it to mean.
As a practical matter, in COVID, “misinformation” means something at variance with “official” “guidance”. I disagree with a lot of stuff people here say about COVID, I certainly DO NOT disagree that the party line has been wrong so much that doubting it is an appropriate default position.
And when the word goes out from the Inner Party about what the official line is today, all the little ducks swim right into line and start shrieking about “misinformation”, as if they have personally reviewed the data and are confident about their position.
> “..... spread dangerous misinformation .....”
So sayeth Dean Obeidallah, a lawyer.
Well Dean, from one intellectual to another, I got some “dangerous misinformation” right here ready to shove up your State Bar Orifice!
Bkmk.
