A massive wildfire that broke out in South Korea's eastern coastal county of Uljin forced President Moon Jae-in to order all-out efforts to protect the nearby Hanul Nuclear Power Plant on Friday, March 4, 2022.
The government issued a natural disaster alert after a wildfire broke out in the county of Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province on Friday, about 10 km (6.2 miles) from the Hanul Nuclear Power Plant.1
"Place the top priority on preventing casualties and put every possible effort into swiftly putting out the fire," Moon told officials after being briefed on the wildfire.
Dozens of helicopters and about 1 000 firefighters were sent to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the power plant.2
The fire reached the perimeter of the utility, forcing the operator to reduce operations to 50%, but the plant has sustained no damage so far, according to the Korea Forest Service.
"We have formed a line of defense there," a forest service official said on TV, referring to the perimeter of the plant. "We are not seeing any big damage near the nuclear plant area as of now."

What started the 🔥 ?
If you want to find arsonists look no further than local anarchists or Commies. They’ve got a century plus long tradition of just wanting to burn the world.
I assume nuclear power plants are surrounded by a lot of concrete, if only in the form of parking lots.
Concrete doesn’t burn.
And the necessity for vast quantities of water for cooling causes me to infer that they can hose down whatever needs it with water to spare.
I haven’t heard of a drought in Korea. Weird.
I’ve been to a couple plants.
You are correct about the concrete everywhere. We’re talking about 2 - 3 football fields worth.
That said, I’ve seen plenty of concrete buildings & bridges burn and collapse. That concrete will crystalize after so long.
Danger Will Robinson. It’s like Covid spreading and getting AIDS by sitting on a toilet seat. Blown up to be bigger than it is. Everyone has to react. In the meantime Walgrens has to close stores-theft. All connected?
Not great, not terrible.
“Can’t believe the Russians started a forest fire and are threatening another nuclear plant!”
Daily Mail will show a few pictures of this and say it’s another Russian attack on Chernobyl.
I have to admit that I have a strong sense of us all being played on this whole Russia/Ukraine stuff - and I mean for the last several years. It’s like we saw a pawn sacrificed a few years ago and it was planned to culminate in the events we’re seeing on the chessboard now. Add to this the fact that I see all this stuff (Ukraine, stolen election covid crap) as this:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” — Ephesians 6:12 ESV
Nuke power is great. Until it isn’t.
Jeez, I’d hope prescribed, controlled fires would be done ROUTINELY AND REPEATEDLY around nuclear power plants to prevent buildup of combustible material.
Anything less would be negligence, IMHO.
The fire won’t affect the plant. Too much concrete around.
Yeah. Concrete will burn if it gets hot enough. But this situation doesn’t put the plant at risk. This is hype to get anti nukes peoples panties in a wad.
Ok. So the article is a waste of time. All nuke plants are safe as are their waste until the end of time on earth, which is what the current wager is. Including the one in the middle of the war in Ukraine, Harrisburg, Chernobyl and Fukushima. The latter having been built on a fault line.
Even the green mad Germans shut down their nukes.
But this is a silliness thread. Ok. I’m stupid. Ok
Well I’m still glad the Long Island housewives went out to shore ham personally to prevent that sh— show from happening. Seven million people needing to get off the island immediately with two bridges, before considering surrounding areas- Manhattan three tunnels and a couple of bridges. Ahh the surrounding area is on fire but it won’t affect the plant
Oh. Ok.
