DISPATCH: HOW ONE UKRAINIAN CITY IS PREPARING TO RESIST THE RUSSIANS’ ARRIVAL

POLTAVA REGION

When Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, this small city in central Ukraine — the name of which is being withheld for security reasons — immediately mobilized to resist the Russian invaders. Territorial Defense and police forces fortified road arteries in and out of the city and implemented a strict curfew.

Armed with assault rifles and sniper rifles, the local resistance unit is an ad hoc group of volunteers who immediately sprang to action when the war began. The outfit is not funded, armed, or commanded by the regular military or city government. Rather, they purchased their own weapons and provide their own equipment, supplies, and vehicles.

The recent trend of savage Russian attacks against civilian areas in places such as Kharkiv, Mariupol, and the outskirts of Kyiv have resolutely hardened most Ukrainians’ attitudes toward Russia. Even in this part of Ukraine, where many people have family ties to Russia and speak Russian as their primary language at home, the brutality of combat has spurred hard feelings toward Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.

“Some people here used to be sympathetic toward Russia,” Oleksandr, the Territorial Defense chief, said. “But now 99.9% of the population is against Russia. Actually, they hate Russia and Putin with a passion.”

“Our hatred is now huge for Russia and Putin for all they’ve done to us. Even those of us who were ambivalent toward Russia now see Russia as our enemy,” said Mykola, a 74-year-old former actor who recently fled his hometown of Kharkiv.

“We’ll never forgive Russia for what they’ve done to us,” said Mykola, who has family still in Kharkiv enduring an indiscriminate Russian bombardment. “Russia has committed a crime against humanity, and we need to show that to the whole world.”

Putin was grossly mistaken in thinking he would be greeted as a liberator, or at least that he would be greeted as a liberator among Russian-speaking Ukrainians.

It seems that some outsiders also imagine, from looking at old election maps or maps of linguistic regions in Ukraine, that because some region tends toward Russian-speakers or voted for such-and-such a person 15 years ago, that they would welcome being absorbed by Putin's Russia.

It just ain't that simple.

You are very prominent in the pro Ukraine side of things. Is this a recent conversion? You had nothing to say when Obafuhrer Obama let Putin do what he liked in Ukraine in 2014.

I honestly don’t know what to think about some of these
reports.

Of course I like what they seem to be doing, but I’m not sure
that it’s all true.

If it is, Putin certainly stepped in a pasture patty this
time.

If even the Russian speaking people are angry, that’s a very
big dent in his claim he was only looking out for them.

There is a lot of negative talk about Putin and Russia
at this time. I happen to wish good things for the
Ukrainian and Russian people.

It is sad the Russian leader got fixated on this to the
point he couldn’t see any downside to what he is pulling
off.

If he captures Kiev and kills it’s leader, he might think
he just won the battle.

The fact is, he will have solidified his defeat in the eyes
of the world, the eyes of the Ukrainians, perhaps the Russian
speakers in the Ukraine, and in most minds in Russia and
its civilian and military leadership.

Nice job there cowboy.

How do you unify all your enemies in just a matter of weeks?

“Is this a recent conversion?”

It’s a condition I relate to exposure to the true pandemic viral disease: STUPID-19.

Every month I grow more & more convinced that SARS-CoV-2 was designed to elicit mental & physical illness via its blood toxicity characteristics and ACE2 vulnerabilities.

The evidence is ALL over FR. It’s either that, or deep state is SO accomplished at its art of manipulation that they’ve managed to split off what seems like a majority to align with such asinine positions.

NOBODY makes Kool-Aid so powerful. Then again, what if the virus & the jabs ARE the Kool-Aid, so-to-speak?

It’s absolutely maddening

You had time to try to navigate all the way back to 2014 in his comments or is this a buddy thing?

Crimea, having a small minority of Ukrainians, did not seem too upset with the Russians. If they didn’t care, why should we care?

The rest of the Ukraine feels differently now.

So taking a part of Ukraine was cool back then but all of it now is not ok. Just don’t get it.

do not like Obama but I dont think he could have done anything as according to this documentary from Oliver Stone people in Crimea wanted annexation by Russia, thats why Crimea had to be let go despite official wording that it was invaded

Bombs don’t differentiate between Ukraines and Russians.

No guy gets to that level of power, without being able to play
power politics, but you can’t hang on to that sort of thing
forever. At some point you have to back off. If you’ve been
a terror to people in your nation, you may have to pay a high
penalty at the end.

I think he’s losing his grip. He had a long run.

We’ll see.

I don’t think any of them are the genius they think they are,
even if they fool people for a while.

Perfect summation. The only thing I might add is the amazing job this invasion has done to make apparent “conservatives” root for a totalitarian dictator.

There are reasons for folks to make mistakes in the fog of
war. I may be making some myself.

I post what makes sense to me, but I realize others see
different boogymen under every unturned stone.
