Denounce Putin or lose your job: Russian conductor Valery Gergiev given public ultimatum

Star conductor and close friend of Putin dropped by his management ahead of deadline to speak out or be fired from Munich Philharmonic

Russia’s star conductor, Valery Gergiev, has been dropped by his management over his close ties to Vladimir Putin as he faces a looming deadline to publicly denounce the Russian president or lose yet another role in his rapidly crumbling career.

The 68-year-old Russian, an old friend and supporter of Putin, has faced increasing pressure to speak out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine over the last week. He has been removed from performances around the world and faces more professional punishment if he does not condemn Putin’s aggression in the next 24 hours.

On Sunday, his manager, Marcus Felsner, announced he would be dropping Gergiev, who he called “the greatest conductor alive and an extraordinary human being with a profound sense of decency”, but who “will not, or cannot, publicly end his long-expressed support for a regime that has come to commit such crimes.”

Hopefully leftwingers will join conservatives in finally canceling the Russians who have for years been stirring up racial animosity via BLM etc here at home.

I hate to break it to ya, skeeter, but 'BLM, etc' is a production of the 'deep state' derps (Soros, Hillary, Rothschilds, et al), which is the opposite of Russia. The same people who are and have been herding you toward war with Russia.

You don't think that RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA was real, do ya?

So much for free speech or freedom of association in Germany. NAZIs are alive and well in Germany.

Unfortunately, half the people on FR appear to be war loving authoritarians, that don’t give a damn about individual liberty.

They are too stupid to realize that what is being set up is Putin=Trump, and soon anyone that supports Trump will also have to denounce him to keep their job. That is what Jan 6 hearings are all about and why there is so much Russia hate constantly pushed by the Democrats and the corporate media. It’s so obvious to me, but here we are.

I didn’t like when a company would fire people over vaccination status and I don’t support firing this guy for his political beliefs.

why would you want this man cancelled, deplatformed, debanked, and DESTROYED?

I believe he should be fired, that's what I said, that's what I believe, he's a Putin ally and a symbol. And know, I don't buy the simplistic arguments made that over generalize "cancel culture" without understanding the context.

You’re clueless. They also accused Trump of crimes against Humanity. They accused Bush of crimes against humanity too. Now, that they completely control the airwaves they get to decide who needs to be condemned for crimes against humanity. They can complete make it up, force people to agree, push a narrative and block contradicting view points and voila, they’ve created new facts. This is complete tyranny. This will not end with “bad guy” Putin. By the way, does Putin have a perspective? You wouldn’t know even if you cared to know. You should look beyond your hatred of one man and consider what this actually means.

he can boycott with half of his body. This would also have the serendipitous effect of aiding us in easing our shortage of semiconductors.

> I’m good with cancelling people associated with crimes against humanity. <

I agree. Some folks here are focusing on the “cancel” part of this story. And that’s understandable. “Cancel culture” is an inhumane, fascist thing.

But in this particular instance the “crime” part must take precedence. Putin committed a monstrous crime by invading Ukraine. To stand with him now is not unlike standing with Hitler after he invaded Poland.

This certainly puts folks like this conductor in a bind. It’s not easy to denounce an old friend in whom you might still have some faith. But it is what it is.

Exactly. Liberals think Putin cost Hillary the election. That's why they are gung ho for this war.

Yes... it’s clearly all about conformity. I can’t understand how FR’ers can support this. Jane Fonda is a case in point... she openly supported the Vet Cong, posed on an anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi. A lot of anger over that from patriots, but she went on to make movies, plenty of them, I’d bet a lot of people on this site have seen those movies... ‘Fun With Dick and Jane..’ ‘On Golden Pond’ ‘Julia’ etc. I’m sure there were those who called for her to be anathematized but point is, she wasn’t because this is America.

People denounce China for all of its human atrocities it has committed yet they still buy products made in China. I guess then people can condemn this conductor yet still go listen to his symphonies. The denouncing seems to be all show no substance.

Do you eat meat or use fossil fuels? Then yes, there is someone that thinks you are guilty of crimes against humanity. There are none so blind as those that choose not to see.

Putin and his "army" of support are war criminals, sorry, but you have an difficult time identifying a true enemy.

I believe that in the days of the cold war, we had no greater enemy than the Soviet Union, and they did all they could to destroy us from within, the effects of which are felt today. And the Chinese sat back and smiled, because they think and plan long, as the heathen Chinee do.

Now, it's the heathen Chinee (the yellow peril) who has taken the front seat in the takedown of America. They are the true enemy.

Hard to believe, given the level of derp state propaganda, but Russia is now the ally of REAL America, though remains the enemy of Derp/China controlled America (Biden's America). They are allies of convenience in order to protect themselves from the derps (the Ukraine puppet masters).

That is the way of it. Think in those terms and things make sense.
