I would assume fire depts across the USA will increasingly need this special equipment to fight electric car fires resulting from car accidents and malfunctions. I’m sure they burn clean as well. -sarc

Well if your special order car is on that ship, you can kiss it goodbye.

Lithium-ion batteries in the electric cars on board have caught fire (...) The source of the fire is still unknown.

"The ship is burning from one end to the other ... everything is on fire about five meters above the water line," Cabeças said. (...) the fate of the cars remains unknown.

I am betting they will tow it around long enough for it to sink. Who’s going to want to clean up that mess?

Electric cars good for environment? Reality is that no technology is completely free of some kind of environmental impact...even ones declared “green” by the Environmental advocacy industry. The real criteria for whether or not a technology is “green” is that it is not yet in use on a mass scale but is still a more expensive or less practical “alternate technology”. As soon as a technology becomes main stream, the Environmental groups will suddenly realize the impact it does have and exaggerate it to abolish the technology in favor “green sustainable alternatives”...which they will also denounce as dirty tech if they ever become main stream.

>specialized equipment to extinguish

LOL!

Anyone with any sense knows that is a complete loss, there will be no extinguishing short of it burning out. That is a 4000+ car carbeque.

We know a communist leftist that we call ‘Battery boy’ because he thinks all the world’s problems would just be solved if we just built huge batteries to power everything.

He is effectively as dumb as that meme that has AOC saying, ‘the supply chain problems do not effect me. I buy my food from the supermarket.’

Don’t think I’ll be parking any lithium battery powered vehicle in my garage. Might not be a good idea to park my old gas guzzler next to the two charging stations in the downtown garage.

Yeah, I’m not signing onto Biden’s plan to force nearly all of us into electric cars. I have enough problems with my house without having a rolling firebomb in my carport.

Lithium and lithium batteries are problematic.

* Lithium is mined with slave labor using horrendous environmental techniques.
* Lithium battery fires cannot be extinguished - period! Ask the Morris (IL) Fire Department which became the national focus for all the ways you CAN'T put out lithium fires. Even consulting with industry experts, it was resolved that you really CANNOT extinguish these fires once they get going.
* Lithium cannot be recycled so it will be a secondary environmental nightmare over and above mining problems with leaky landfills, polluting the groundwater.
* It usually takes coal-fired or NatGas-fired generation plants to recharge the batteries, making lithium-powered cars contribute to pollution, not a way to reduce polution.
* Windfarms "store" energy with massive lithium battery farms - they catch fire, too, leading to even more environmental disasters.

EVs are a bad joke.
