The unending search for equity in Democrat enclaves has now come for the bike helmet. When the King County Board of Health (which encompasses Seattle) discovered that Black, Indigenous, and other “People of Color,” along with homeless people, were getting more citations for biking without a helmet, equity compelled action: So the Board of Health repealed the bike helmet law, ensuring that this particular inequity would end even as it increases the possibility of serious head injuries for people of all colors and housing situations.
In 1993, almost 30 years ago, the King County Board of Health passed a law requiring people within that county to wear a helmet while riding a bike. Sure, it was a nanny state law but it definitely made a difference in the outcome of accidents involving bicycles. Thus, a 2016 study concluded that bike helmets reduce the risk of serious head injuries by almost 70%. In other words, at a relatively low cost and minimal inconvenience for the bike rider, the personal and societal costs of bike-related brain injuries are hugely decreased.
But some things are more important than protecting people from terrible brain injury and one of those things is making sure that Blacks, Indigenous, and “Peoples of Color,” as well as homeless people, don’t feel put upon by police anxious to force those helmets on their heads. And that seems to be what the police were doing:

Good old Democrats. Even when they do the right thing, they do it for the wrong reason(s)
But then again, this being King County, I am very surprised that “Blacks, Indigenous, and “Peoples of Color,” were not simply excluded from the law.
Sounds 'racist' to me either way...

Single payer will fix all this.
Once in place, nobody will be allowed to study the racial disparities in enforcement.
Brain injuries for everyone!!!!
If minorities and homeless people get brain injuries, everyone gets one!!!

It should be choice. Someone who is not wearing a seatbelt or a helmet is not a danger to anyone else by virtue of their not wearing a helmet or a seatbelt. They will not injure anyone else any worse of there is an accident just because they did not wear a helmet.
While it clearly is safer to wear a helmet or a seatbelt at higher speeds, making it mandatory by law is overreach.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no mandatory helmet laws for operating a car despite the fact that the leading cause of death in car accidents is head injury. Theoretically; the helmet while driving would make one "safer".

This is a helluva logic. If a privileged group breaks a particular law more than whites then that law is racist.
So what happens with murder, robbery, and drug crimes? Are they all going to be made legal?
Well, they can’t figure out how to get a voter ID, so maybe they really are that stupid.
In fairness, they’re not wrong. Try to picture Sideshow Bob wearing a helmet.

This isn’t a matter of lawlessness; it’s a matter of a silly law that is more difficult for certain people to comply with.
They did away with the red light cameras in Rochester NY for the same reason.
So, if enough blacks commit rape, murder or assaults on a politicians, think they’ll get rid of those “racist” laws???
Typical. Next they’ll be calling for the euthanasia of Whites because they don’t die in the same proportion as non-Whites.
In this case the people who use helmets will have less injuries.
Harrison Bergeron rides again
People more likely to flout the law are getting ticketed in greater numbers than those who tend to obey the law. Imagine that. Are they going to turn a blind eye to murder, seeing as how half of the murders are committed by such a small portion of the population?
Wouldn’t it be ironic if “wokeness” and libtoids end up doing everything that Libertarians were calling for 40 years ago in the name of “racial justice?”
I mean, are seat belts next, because you know they add to the cost of a car. (Not that anyone can afford a new car now).
Yep, Equal Opportunity Head Injuries!
