Will there be a war over Ukraine? Have recent negotiations opened a path to peace? Unfortunately, the diplomats have achieved very little. The White House says no further talks with Russia have been planned.[i] Worse yet, American intelligence officials say that Russia is setting up a pretext to invade Ukraine. On 14 January Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said, “Without getting into too much detail, we do have information that indicates Russia is already working actively to create a pretext for a potential invasion…. In fact, we have information that they have prepositioned a group of operatives to conduct what we call a ‘false flag operation’; an operation designed to look like an attack on … Russian-speaking people … as an excuse to go in.”[ii]

Too much drama.
Either to hurt China distract from their Olympics and or to buck up Joe Biden’s credibility as a leader.
Just seeing how many of you are still here. And the obligatory Soviet Putin pic...
Pootey-poot is a “true believer” (former KGB) who’s still “sour graping” over Yeltsin not extending himself to help Gorbachev keep the non-Russian Soviet states in line, which led to the collapse of the USSR. The leopard does not change his spots, and this might be his last best chance to resuscitate the old USSR.
I asked a Russian guy what he thought the percentage chance of Russian invasion was. He said 50-50.
Worse yet, American intelligence officials cannot be trusted.
Russia got what it wanted in the previous invasion. They annexed the Crimea so they don’t lease the naval base anymore.
With the eastern provinces they took, they now have a buffer zone.
Russia didn’t make public its operations in Ukraine. Russian families found out the hard way when they had to pay custom duties to get their sons’ bodies back. They were not happy.
"We are of course Norwegian?!"
There are people, unfortunately fooled by an occasional sign of the cross or an Orthodox priest at public ceremonies, who will say that honoring World War II Soviet heroism is an act of patriotism. However, West Germany, from its 1949 establishment, forbade the use of any Nazi era symbolism, even though the Wehrmacht was heroic in defending the Fatherland. The Soviets, especially under Stalin, killed multiple times more people than Hitler and the Nazis did.
Methinks, I agree with you.
I do have a couple of thoughts about Putin’s saber rattling though.
First, in 2021 why would any modern first world nation “lay siege” on another nation’s border? Why wait when you can send in the bombers, then the mechanized artillery, then a couple of divisions move in as soon at the bombs quit falling?
Second, I think Putin got what he wanted when Dimjo OKed an incursion,
Third, as you say, the table is set for a revolution by the pro-Russian elements. All backed up by a 100,000 or so Russian troops to occupy and control the rest of the populace. And all publicly OKed by Dimjo.
Makes sense to me.
Our AFGE pukes are trash now compared to was heroes like SGM Billy Waugh.
Are these brigade sized elements?
Can’t keep a high optempo indefinitely. Combat effectiveness will suffer.
Our AFGE union pukes are trash now compared to war heroes like SGM Billy Waugh.
Checking in. Ping recieved.
Interesting times.
And who cares if they do?
Putin would not be trying this nonsense if President Trump were still in the White House.
Oh, that does it! American intelligence says….
I stopped reading after that.
To Americans it should be irrelevant who does what to who in the Ukraine.
