"Retail crime has been rising throughout the US for the past five years, with organized criminal rings targeting stores everywhere from Woonsocket (Rhode Island) to Greensboro (North Carolina) to Grafton (Wisconsin). The National Retail Federation reported that store losses mounted from $453,940 per $1 billion in sales in 2015 to $719,458 in 2020.
The biggest increase over that period happened not during the pandemic but in 2019, when total losses from shoplifting surged to $61 billion, up from $50 billion the previous year. The COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 and early 2021 moderated losses, largely because stores were closed or had curtailed operating hours. Now that retailing has resumed, crime has spiked again. ..."

Exponential growth of shoplifting contributes to rising inflation. Retailers are raising prices to cover the cost of lost goods lost to pilferage.

It’s called Third Worldization! It’s the utter breakdown of the law, and the ability of the rich within such a feudal society to find ways to avoid the violent chaos.
Neistat was right in identifying a pandemic of crime in Los Angeles as Third Worldization. In a recent online exchange, YouTuber, Casey Neistat vented his anger after his car was broken into and the contents stolen. Los Angeles, he railed, was turning into a “3rd world s***hole of a city.”
The predictable role of the smug, indifferent Third World rich, who master ignoring – and navigating around – the misery of others in their midst. In a medieval-type society of two rather than three classes, the rich in walled estates rarely worry that much about thievery. Crime is written off as an intramural problem of the poor, especially when the middle class is in decline or nonexistent.
Such impoverishment pales in comparison to the encampments of present-day Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, or San Francisco. Tens of thousands live on sidewalks and in open view use them to defecate, urinate, inject drugs, and dispose of refuse.
Violent crime is soaring in America. Two things are different about America’s new criminality.
• One is the virtual impunity of it. Thieves now brazenly swarm a store, ransack, steal, and flee with the merchandise without worry of arrest.
• • Second, the Left often justifies crime as a sort of righteous payback against a supposedly exploitative system.
So, the architect of the so-called 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones, preened of the riotous destruction of property during the summer of 2020: “Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence.”
Third Worldization reflects the asymmetry of law enforcement. Ideology and money, not the law, adjudicate who gets arrested and tried, and who does not.

It’s the leniency of politicians like California Governor Gavin Newsom/Gruesome which is ultimately responsible for the descent into barbarism and this organized looting/piracy with masses of looters.
This organized massed looting is similar to a problem our forefathers had at one time. It was called piracy. They shot or hung pirates and then sank their ships with the pirates on board.

Honesty and the humility to knock on the door of a food bank or St. Vincent de Paul store and get help with groceries and medicine.

I live in the small city of Rome, New York, and serious crime here is very rare. However, thievery is becoming more rampant. I blew my knee out a week ago yesterday, and my son came in to take me to the laundromat, and to get groceries. I’ve been going to the same laundromat for many years, and when we got there today, we learned that someone had stolen the change machine about 3 weeks ago, and it hadn’t been replaced. My poor son had to run back out, in order to get some quarters. He tried first at the grocery store, but they wouldn’t give them out. The girl at customer service told him he should try the car wash a couple of miles down the road, which he did, and got enough quarters so I could do my laundry. Crime is up everywhere, and the way Democrats deal with it, is to let the same perps right back out on the street, so they can offend again.
I am going to Kroger next week and filling up a shopping cart - then I will push past the check out counters and see if anyone stops me.
If you happen to be a white, middle-class looking male, you WILL get stopped. Guaranteed.
And end the tax deduction for shrinkage.

I didn’t read the article but headline. To answer it, the reason is democrats cause it
The middle class is the newest class and many are too stupid to defend their class. There have always been the elite and the lower class, sometimes criminals.
The middle class likes to chime in with what the elites say and thus are losing their niche of working people and professionals and surrendering it to the criminals, which is more than fine for the rich elites of high tech, hollyweird, corrupt politicians and the media.
What you allow, is what will continue.
