‘Die Hard’ Star Declares Film a ‘Christmas Cult Classic’
Outsider ^ | December 25, 2021 | Josh Lanier

"The debate over whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not rages anew every December. Fans of the Bruce Willis action classic will likely litigate this until the end of time. That debate extends to the cast and crew, as well. Recently, another star of the film weighed in to say yes, Die Hard is as Christmas as It’s a Wonderful Life.

De’voreaux White, who played Argyle, John McClane’s limo driver, recently wrote a piece for Newsweek about his time on the Bruce Willis classic and how he landed the gig. About halfway into the column, White lays the Christmas debate bare.

“Die Hard is one of the original action-packed movies, however, it’s also a Christmas cult classic,” he wrote. “That’s what it is; Argyle said so!”

White joins a growing list of people that worked on Die Hard that say it’s a Christmas movie. That includes the movie’s writer and director. ..."

If you are speaking to me specifically go back and read the responses I never compared Die Hard to any other movie save your anger for the right person

Okay, you shaved ape.

In one alternative universe, George Bailey's brother Henry, fell down the hole and drownt like a rat. In another, he went to WWII and saw so much carnage it made Nakatomi towers look like a bar-mitzvah, and there were also Japanese and euro trash involved.

Death count - Its a wonderful life.

Bad guy comparison - Mr. Potter made that effete Hans homo look like Richard Simmons' gay brother. And I'll put Uncle Billy up against the also gay limo driver, Argyle, any day.

Chicks - Who'd you rather bang?

This (even in black and white. talk to Ted Turner for a quick fix if needed)....>

Or this...?

Tough guys - This one's a lead pipe cinch.

This guy? Kilt by a barefoot bald man....?

Or this guy, with his fist of steel, who woulda tossed Fabio out into the snow face first....?

Main heroes - We have established that Hans Gruber is a prancing wuss bag who only shoots unarmed gaylords with bad teeth and old Jappers, while George Bailey coulda took out both Potter and Gruber at the same time in like two seconds. He shot Liberty Valance, ffs? You just don't mess with a man like that.

The ONLY point Die Hard scores is the closet boning scene. But that's IT (though I think George got Mary under the bleachers after they fell in the pool, they just didn't show it).

Now siddown.

It’s amazing how something so simple and fun can turn into a pissing contest over whether Die Hard is a Christmas Movie, if you believe that it’s a Christmas Movie then that is what it is....I believe it is a Christmas Movie and if others get their panties in a wad over, it’s their problem not mine.

"Tell me idiot, what was the body count on IAWL?"

IAWL was actually in violation of the Hays Code (the movie industry's self-imposed morality code prior to the modern MPAA rating system).

The Hays Code stipulated that any perpetrator of a malignant act (criminal, moral, ethical) would have to face either punishment or atonement and forgiveness seeking prior to the end of the movie. IOW, the film industry was supposed to ensure it did not depict bad guys getting away with bad deeds. In IAWL, Potter gets away with stealing/not returning the $8,000.

At least in Die Hard, the villain is defeated, suffering a spectacular, and quite literal major downfall.

“Not about Christmas”

You probably stepped out to get some popcorn during the Christmas party that took place in the movie.

Next time...wait until the intermission.

It’s a Christmas movie.

I have family and friends who firmly believe we must watch it together every Christmas season.

There are several. “Die Hard” is on that list.

“It is an action movie SET in the Christmas season. “

Wrong! It’s a Christmas movie with some action!

“When was someone hung with a chain in IAWL?”

You racist! Different people celebrate Christmas differently! Next thing you know, you’ll be badmouthing Kwanzaa...or even Festivus.

You might be right, though I can’t locate in my Bible, the verse where Jesus said, “Yippee Kay Yay Motherf%#&er!”

Perhaps with your vast knowledge of all things ‘Christmas’, you could point me to that Scripture verse?

Nope...you are mistaken. I do not have a vast knowledge of all things Christmas.

But I do know that Diehard is a Christmas movie.

"IAWL was actually in violation of the Hays Code (the movie industry's self-imposed morality code prior to the modern MPAA rating system).

The violent scenes were left on the cutting room floor and replaced by light-hearted ones.

Have you considered that the people arguing about it are goofing around? Does anybody REALLY care about this?

The arguing itself has become a Christmas tradition. Join in the fun.

Diehard is a fun argument to have rather than the sick shit that seems to be argued at family gatherings the last dozen Christmas .... Merry Christmas Bagster and whoever else agrees with this type of argument being good and fun... May everyone’s family arguments be of this nature.
