As the leader of one of the world’s most visible bands, U2’s Bono is an extremely polarizing figure. On one side, he’s the source for some of the greatest, most popular music of a generation. He has also been one of the most charity minded celebrities covering a cause in ways not seen since the days of Harry Chapin.
And that crossing between entertainer and activist has pushed people into either loving or hating him.

Bono wants more government spending, but incorporates his band in The Netherlands to avoid Irish taxes. Hypocrite!
Exactly- higher taxes for thee but not for me.
Take Cher back, Bono. She’s getting embarrassing, and California’s homeless problem is already bad enough as it is.
Same reason John Lennon fled Britain, he “imagined” no taxes.
“...not seen since the days of Harry Chapin.”
And...look where that got Harry Chapin.
sell your frameless blue sunglasses and feed the world Bozo
If you read through what he said, it is a totally clear presentation of the Gospel and who the Lord Jesus Christ is.
Who readily confesses that he is a sinner deserving judgment.
And he forces you to face the question: Who was Jesus Christ?
He has met Him. For sure.
Excuse ME! (In a Steve Martin voice)
Bono is a grifter. He moved his company locate to a low / no tax country to prevent paying taxes to Ireland, their home. Next regarding charity, Bono stiff arms leaders around the world for governments to donate to Bono’s charity! What a Grifter!
bono is a big government, totalitarian loving leftist. Who cares what he has to say.
And he’s a fan of homosexual marriage. He’s a quandary because reading the article it seems he really does know Christ.
Does bono know if it’s Christmas over there?
I’m not necessarily a fan of Bono (or U2, for that matter), but I have read many articles and seen interviews with him. As near as I can tell, he really is a believer in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Yes, he has some personal beliefs that seem contrary, but who (other than Jesus Himself) is perfect? I’m sure I have beliefs and actions that don’t match 100% with what others think. None of us do. As long as the Main Thing IS the Main Thing-that Jesus is who He says He is, and that he (Bono) lives as He expects, that’s what counts.
Bono is represents plenty of modern Christian thinking. Clearly he has a personal relationship with Christ. He is personally involved in helping other whereas many Christians today are not personally active in this area. Finally, he is more than willing to let government be the tool to solve problems.
Here is where I believe modern Christians get it wrong, Bono included. The government may be trying to relieve human suffering. Like with most things, the government stinks at most things it tries to do, yet plenty of good decent Christian folks really believe they are doing Christ’s work by voting for liberals who expand government programs.
He comes to Omaha about once a year to beg $$ from Warren Buffett’s daughter.
I remember U2.
I honestly cannot recall a single song from U2 or Bono. Honestly, I’m not even sure I ever heard a song by them.
That's the plane Francis Gary Powers flew, right?
"Mysterious Ways" is one of their best, imho. Best heard at high volume.
Here is where I believe modern Christians get it wrong, Bono included..
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
I’d say where they get it wrong is that they pay no attention to Jesus telling the adulteress to ‘sin no more’.
Wh obviously I’m not the judge but to me that also tells me there is a distinct possibility they’re not truly saved. They put their own belief system before God’s. Bono’s example of this is that he believes in homosexual marriage. One of the things that God makes so abundantly clear he detests. Yet Bono says that’s okay I’ll tell God what’s right and wrong. No you don’t.
