Defense Minister Benny Gantz recently returned from Morocco where he met with his counterparts and signed an agreement for strengthening security ties between Israel and the North African country. The agreement allows Morocco to purchase Israeli air defense systems, military drones and other hi-tech equipment. Morocco also purchased machine guns, reconnaissance vehicles and observation systems from Israel.
The backdrop to these purchases is the increasing tension between Algeria and Morocco in a territorial dispute along the Western Sahara. Morocco needs weapons and, mostly, defensive weapons for border control and protection.
In December 2020, Morocco joined the Abraham Accords paving the way for full normalization with Israel. The border conflict and the aggressions of the Algerian regime encouraged and even accelerated the forming of ties between the two countries. Algeria, which has close ties with the Iranian government, is exercising a strong show of hostility towards Morocco. Algeria recently severed diplomatic ties with Morocco and even prevents Moroccan civilian aircraft from flying in Algerian airspace.
Yessir, Jihadis are very active in the north of Africa and Algeria is encroaching on Morocco a stones throw from Europe, meanwhile in Djibouti... things escalate with China and the Jihadis and someone has to guard the gates..

But what kind of message does that send to Western Saharians?

They are mostly not Arabic speaking in Morocco. Israel had good relations with non-Arab Muslim countries, such as Turkey and Iran under the Shah.
I am not sure why Morocco cannot buy that equipment from the US, UK, or France.
Israeli weapons are world class in capabilities and the new defense pact no doubt includes Israeli intelligence cooperation with Morocco and assistance with border security, two specialties with which Israel has unique regional and cultural competence.
Algeria has been acting very aggressively towards Morocco, since the military junta there still uses Nasserite Arab fascism as a principle of legitimacy while Morocco (together with Saudi Arabia) is the last Arab colonial-era monarchy still in place. The Algerians support the independence of the Western Sahara which the Moroccans hold with US and French support.
That they should remain loyal subjects of Mohammed VI.
What is surprising is the agreement in out in the open, not that they might cooperate covertly.

Correct. The interesting issue in Algeria is the Berber background... There are those there that reject the Arabization and are friendly with Israel

True, but with Israel selling weapons and military equipment to Morocco, the arrangement would be impossible to hide from the Moroccan military.
I’ve met Berbers from Algeria who were always quick to point out the fact that they are not Arabs when I tell them my father was a Frenchman born in Algiers. They protested enough to stop the Algerian government when it wanted to change the language of instruction from French to Arabic. The Berbers have seen the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Arabs, the Turks and the French come and go so they know they can simply wait out the current regime.
Algeria invented the "Western Saharan" nationality (and the Polisario Front terrorists) decades ago. Morocco's late King Hassan long ago said in interview that if there were peace between the Arabs and Israel, "think of how they could transform the region". The Moroccan gov't has always taken a dim view of muzzie terrorists and wannabees; the Radio Islam clown who at least used to operate out of Sweden was exiled from Morocco. Too bad they didn't just execute him.
