An Open Letter to General Mark Milley
US Defense Watch ^ | November 18, 2021 | Ray Starmann

Posted on 11/18/2021 12:13:44 AM PST by pboyington

Dear General Milley:

It’s been quite a year for you, sir. As the Walls of the Pentagon Jericho come tumbling down, you sit calmly at your desk while the US military sinks into a maelstrom of wokeness from which it will not emerge.

The list of fiascos on your watch seems to grow every day.

Let’s begin with our withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is no doubt the biggest military debacle since General von Paulus’ Sixth Army took a detour south to a place called Stalingrad.

You oversaw the abandonment of millions of dollars of US military equipment to our enemy, the Taliban, which you referred to as a ‘logistical success.’ Logistical success? The Taliban is now the most heavily armed terrorist group in the world and has the 26th largest air force on the planet.

What an insult this was to our courageous troops and Afghani friends who gave all that mortality can give during our longest war.

You also violated the sacred tenet of the US military – to leave no man behind – EVER.

Yet —

At this very moment, hundreds of US citizens, legal residents and our heroic allies are running for their lives in Afghanistan. Some have been rescued by private citizens/veterans; who, unlike you, have a conscience and a sense of duty. Some are waiting to be rescued. Some will never be rescued. Pray for them.

You abandoned US citizens and US legal residents with a cursory, amoral disregard which bewildered all of us. It was bad enough to watch a naïve, liberal fool like Secretary of State Anthony Blinken say that nothing could have been done to save these people, but you, sir?

You know better. You took an oath general. We thought you lived by three hallowed words: Duty, Honor, Country.

What words do you live by, general? Me… Me… Me..?

Your defense during congressional hearings on Afghanistan was that you can only offer the President and Secretary of Defense recommendations; that this gargantuan cluster wasn’t your responsibility. Really? With this administration, you offer suggestions. During President Trump’s days in office, you thought you were General James Mattoon Scott, from the film Seven Days in May, leading some kind of coup with assorted radicals from the Democratic Party.

According to Bob Woodward, in his new book, Peril, you contacted your counterpart in China, Gen. Li Zuocheng, to inform him that “If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise. We’re not going to have a fight.”

That’s stone cold sedition at best, and treason at worst, general.

The book also recounts a phone conversation you had with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after the Jan. 6 violence at the Capitol, which Pelosi blamed on an “unhinged” Trump. Pelosi said in January that she spoke to you about “preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike.”

You stated, “I can guarantee you, you can take it to the bank, that there’ll be, that the nuclear triggers are secure and we’re not going to do — we’re not going to allow anything crazy, illegal, immoral or unethical to happen.”

You said Mr. Trump was arrogant and reckless and God help us, might push that nuclear button.

If you want reckless and arrogant General, you need only look in the mirror.

I’m sure you’re aware that according to the National Security Act of 1947 and the Goldwater Nichols Act of 1986, that the JCS and its Chairman are only advisers to the President. Those acts expressly state that the Joint Chiefs of Staff do not have operational command authority, either individually or collectively, and that the U.S. chain-of-command goes from the President of the United States to the Secretary of Defense to the combatant commanders in the field. These generals and admirals do have command authority and are charged with following the President’s orders under the direction of the Secretary of Defense.

Sir, you violated US law as contained in both acts and UCMJ Article 94, which states that “a service member of the United States armed forces who seeks to overthrow lawful civil or military order by seditious or mutinous acts either through violence or disobedience” is guilty of a punishable offense.

Your actions, General Milley, seem indicative of willful disobedience to disrupt lawful military and civilian order.

The Chinese are our enemy. If you haven’t figured that out yet, you need to turn off Don Lemon and Joy Reid and get a real world intelligence briefing.

Any other serving members of the military would be up on charges awaiting three hots and a cot at Leavenworth, had they conducted themselves in a similar manner.

Apparently, you were devoutly anti Trump from the beginning and another serving member of the ‘Resistance’ like Admiral McRaven and General Mad Dog Mattis who turned out to be nothing more than a neutered Chihuahua on Senator Kirsten Gillenbrand’s leash.

Perhaps, sir, you should heed the words of General Douglas MacArthur, who, during his final speech to West Point in 1962, spoke about the role of officers in political affairs.

Others will debate the controversial issues, national and international, which divide men’s minds. But serene, calm, aloof, you stand as the Nation’s war guardians, as its lifeguards from the raging tides of international conflict. Let civilian voices argue the merits or demerits of our processes of government.

These great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution. Your guidepost stands out like a tenfold beacon in the night: Duty, Honor, Country.

Let’s examine some more ongoing crises in our armed forces on your watch, general. The US military, if you haven’t noticed, is in, what every sergeant would call ‘deep Kimchi.’

We are weak and unfocused and our enemies know it.

The US Navy hasn’t had a surface fight with a near peer enemy since 1945. Frankly, I’m worried that they could even find an ocean, much less fight and win on one.

In July, the U.S. Navy charged a sailor with starting a fire last year that destroyed the USS Bonhomme Richard docked off San Diego, marking the maritime branch’s worst warship blaze outside of combat in recent memory.

Besides the fact that the US Navy had an arsonist on board a ship was the fact that the Bonhomme Richard’s crew was completely incapable of putting out the fire because of a lack of training.

I’m not sure what happens on a US Navy ship of war now, but it’s certainly not training for war.

In October, the USS Connecticut collided with a ‘uncharted seamount’ while on a mission in the South China Sea. Don’t subs have things like sonar and radar onboard?

Last month a US Navy engineer Jonathon Toebbe and his wife, a BLM supporter were charged with spying after allegedly selling nuclear sub secrets to China which were hidden in a peanut butter sandwich.

Nearly every other day there are reports of Iranian speed boats harassing and intimidating the US Navy in the Persian Gulf. The world’s greatest Navy is being bullied by tinpot sailors from a nation run by crackpots.

While the Navy runs into sand bars, our most likely foe in the next war, China, is building a military to not just fight us, but to annihilate us.

Last week, at Duke University, you stated that the United States “would be incapable of defending itself against a hypersonic missile akin to the experimental one China launched over the summer.” You also stated that the recent test was “one of the largest shifts in global geo-strategic power that the world has witnessed.”

China is also expanding its nuclear arsenal at a rapid pace. A recent DoD report stated that, “they have accelerated the pace of their nuclear expansion program to the point where they could have up to 700 deliverable nuclear warheads” within roughly five years, while the report alleges that the country likely intends to have at least 1,000 warheads by 2030, exceeding the pace and size the DoD projected in 2020.”

It was also recently reported that the Chinese are building an aircraft carrier that can rival the US in technology.

“Once it is ready, the ship will be China’s third aircraft carrier. But unlike its sister ships, the Liaoning and the Shandong, experts said the Type 003 will feature more advanced aircraft launching technology, along the lines of the catapult system used by US aircraft carriers.”

In addition to a series of artificial atolls that are being built in the South China Sea, the Chinese are eyeing such key global bases in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Tanzania and in the UAE. Most worrisome is China’s diplomatic effort to convince Kiribati, an independent island nation in the Gilberts and the site of the Battle of Tarawa in 1943, to give China control of its 6,000 foot runway. Kiribati is only 1800 miles from Hawaii.

While China seems to be planning Pearl Harbor 2, you feel comfortable being a disciple of the Admiral Kimmel school of readiness.

You have also taken it upon yourself to spend your days reading books on Critical Race Theory, so that you can “think about your own white rage.”

Critical Race Theory is communist propaganda plain and simple. The people who purvey this garbage are Maoists. Communism is the philosophy of our enemies, North Korea and China, sir.

What in God’s name does CRT have to do with winning wars?

It’s all part of the insane obsession with diversity in US society which has seeped into the military.

The army’s recent My Two Moms commercial for potential recruits speaks volumes about where the military’s focus is now.

Do you think that ad is going to motivate an 18 year old kid to sign up to fight for their country? Watching a cartoon of two lesbians from Santa Monica, marching with their ‘kid’ to ban the bomb or shut down fossil fuels or hip hip hooray for BLM? I can’t think of anything more un-motivating.

This debacle, like all the recent debacles is on your watch. You’re in charge. You green-lighted this.

Why? Who are you afraid of on Capitol Hill? Who are you trying to impress?

Whatever happened to the Navy’s “It’s not a job – It’s an Adventure ads?” Or, the Army’s great “Be All You Can Be” commercials?

Now, it’s Be as PC as You Can Be…

Speaking of PC, Ranger School has become nothing more than Colonel Darby’s Boarding Academy for Girls. Are we really supposed to believe that the women graduating with assembly line speed are going through the same training as Ranger School grads from the past? Stow the BS and save the smoke and mirrors for the feminist idiots on the Hill who believe both genders are physically equal.

Just one question? Did you get a bouquet of flowers when you graduated from Ranger School like the girls do now? Just curious sir.

In a recent interview, Marine Corps General David Berger told NPR that he wanted the Corps to have 20-25% women like the other services.

To quote that immortal sage of wisdom, Inspector Harry Callahan from the SFPD, “that sounds very stylish.”

As you know general, operational tempo in war is based on speed and lethality. In layman’s terms, it means moving faster and killing people more quickly than they can kill us.

Perhaps, sir, you can tell me how having women in the combat arms of the army and Marines will maintain or increase that specific unit’s operational tempo?

How do you think a Marine Corps with 25% females would have done on Peleliu, Iwo Jima, at the Frozen Chosin’, in Hue, at Khafji, in Falljuah, general?

I’ll say what you don’t want to say. Are afraid to say. Diversity is not readiness. Diversity is not our strength. Diversity is our doom.

A military can’t be woke and focus on warfighting. It goes against all logic and defies reality. But, the US military isn’t living in world of reality now. It’s in a walking fugue state.

The sad thing is you know how the military is supposed to function, you came of age in the non-woke military.

You remember that military sir, in the 80’s and early 90’s. Our combat experience only included Grenada, Panama and a 100 Hour War, but we were focused on warfighting. General Barry McCaffrey once remarked that Desert Storm wasn’t won in 100 Hours, but in 20 years of hard training at the NTC, at Hohenfels, at Graf and a 1001 other places.

As a former army officer and a veteran of the Gulf War, where I served with the 7th Cavalry, I can honestly say I’m here today because the military I served in wasn’t woke. If we had been, I would have been nothing more than dust in a Mesopotamian wind and those terrible casualty estimates would have come true.

That US military believed in an age old maxim: that the military has one mission – to kill people and break things, period.

What does the US military believe in now? What do you believe in general?

I quote General MacArthur again, sir…

“Through all this welter of change and development your mission remains fixed, determined, inviolable. It is to win our wars. Everything else in your professional career is but corollary to this vital dedication. All other public purpose, all other public projects, all other public needs, great or small, will find others for their accomplishments; but you are the ones who are trained to fight.”

“Yours is the profession of arms, the will to win, the sure knowledge that in war there is no substitute for victory, that if you lose, the Nation will be destroyed, that the very obsession of your public service must be Duty, Honor, Country.”

In 1991, a young private told then Lieutenant General Fred Franks, the commander of VII Corps, “Don’t worry, General. We trust you.”

Who trusts you general?

You and your generation of leaders have violated the sacred bond between the troops and their senior leaders. Trust must be bilateral. And, it’s just not there anymore.

I look at you sir, and I wonder where and when and why you went wrong. How does someone with Ranger and Special Forces tabs, someone who has exhibited great personal courage, who came of age in the Reagan years; someone who understands what it’s like to be on a team; the camaraderie, the toughness mentally and physically required; someone who grew up reading about people like Patton, MacArthur, Lee, Grant, Teddy Roosevelt and Hal Moore- How does a guy like that end up aligning himself with the party of Pelosi, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, and slime like Hillary who was chanting baby killer back at Wellesley, and “too gutless to serve, I hate the military” Bill…?

How does a guy like you still support the destructive policies of the Biden administration?

You, sir, are representative of what is, in my opinion, the worst generation of senior leaders this nation has ever fielded. Bar None. The majority of you, were and are what the late Colonel David Hackworth so eloquently described as ‘perfumed princes.’

It doesn’t matter how many degrees you have; how many combat tours you did and how much fruit salad you earned. It doesn’t matter…

Your generation of senior leaders sold and is selling out the nation’s defense to the highest bidder and that bidder is social engineering and leftist ideology. You and your generation of leftist senior leaders have allowed our military to be destroyed for the greater glory of promotions, pensions, and political power, national security be damned.

You should have already resigned when you knew you weren’t going to be court martialed. But, you won’t resign. You don’t think you’ve done anything wrong.

One day in the near future, when the Great Woke Social Experiment takes the field in a near peer force on force fight and is annihilated you won’t be in the Pentagon. You’ll be safely ensconced at a liberal think tank or a defense contractor as our youth, what FDR once referred to as ‘the pride of our nation’ are slaughtered in droves and all because you and your generation of senior military leaders didn’t have the guts to say or do anything to stop it.

In May of 1940, as German forces rampaged their way across France, the British Parliament had had enough. For too long they had born witness to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s conciliatory policies and his government’s ineptness at waging war.

Leo Amery, a MP, a friend of Chamberlain, but an admirer of Winston Churchill, rose up, gazed at Chamberlain and invoked the memory of Cromwell, “You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart I say and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”

Go, General Milley, in the name of God, go!

All well and good, but , an open letter to ‘Gen. Milley’ is so much used toilet tissue as one to Merrick Garland.

Treason doesn’t care, AT ALL.

The gallows for Milley. A firing squad would be too honorable a death for that traitor.

A speech he gave upon receiving the Nathaniel Thayer Award. I memorized it and delivered it at a speech contest in 12th grade.

Every FReeper should read it at least once.

As one who worked at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I can tell you that if this letter is sent, Miley will never see it. There are people that screen mail to him and one like this automatically goes into the junk pile.

I may have woke the folks up to three states away from the volume of the cheers for this piece I shouted.

Bravo !

Well said !

Millet must be prosecuted for mutiny, sedition and sent to Leavenworth for a life of bread and water and making rocks into smaller rocks.

Miley laughed and threw the letter in the garbage. Miley is an Obama plant. Nothing more. Follow the money trail. There is a large sum of cash with Miley’s name on it, in an off shore account , courtesy of the CCP. Miley and the rest of the traitors in the Pentagon deserve a fair trial, and a fair hanging!

This will fall on deaf ears since the rule of law has been suspended for Milley and others who are in the same camp! What the left better realize is that suspension of the rule of law will eventually apply to everyone and at that point they will be in BIG trouble. History has proven this.

Well first General Miley as the head of the joint chiefs doesn’t figure in the command structure. He is strictly advisory to the CIC and DOD. He does not have any authority over the 11 Co-Comms. All of which BTW were appointed by Trump.

Lets talk about General Berger, commandandant general of the Marine corps. He does not answer to Milley. I read Berger’s interview and found nothing he said untoward. Apparently Trump didn’t either as Berger was front and center at the Kerala go gala last week with Trump giving him a heartfelt shout out. What in the heck was the commandant 4 star General of the Marine Corps doing yukking it up with Trump at Maralago? And he still has his job this week as far as I know.

I guess Berger is not too worried about Biden or Milley. Can you say devolution?
