Envy – the deadly sin of radical politics

I don’t know about money, but in the twentieth century envy has been the source of all evil, or at least most of it.

It was envy that motivated the two totalitarian ideologies, which between them account for the vast graveyard of somewhere from 100 to 200 million murdered, starved, worked to death, and killed in wars of aggression they had unleashed. They also account for the great bulk of oppression and persecution, denial of human rights, economic devastation and general human misery inflicted on hundreds of millions more.

German Nazism, or national socialism as it called itself to distinguish it from the international socialism of the communist Soviet Union, was primarily animated by envy and resentment. Inwardly, its anti-Semitism, as historian Gotz Aly has convincingly argued, had been an expression of economic resentment against the professional and business success of the relatively small Jewish-German minority, perhaps the best assimilated and integrated such minority in the whole of Europe at the time. Outwardly, its aggression had been motivated by the desire for land and resources, which the Slavs had in abundance and the Germans, according to Nazi ideology, needed and deserved instead.

Revolutionary socialism, or communism or international socialism as it had sometimes been known, was in turn animated by economic envy of the have-nots and the status envy of the intellectuals against the property owners. Communism’s ostensible quest for equality relied on, at least for its visceral emotional power if not the actual tangible result, the violent drive towards the lowest common denominator – tearing down the few rather than lifting up the many.

A lot on the the left complain about “greedy” capitalists, but I consider envious parasites far worse than the “greedy” capitalists.

The envious commit both sins - their envy seeks to destroy the successful and they have insatiable greed for other people’s money.

There is this wonderful quote from Tocqueville that captures those sentiments and the current love affair with “equity”:

“There is, in fact, a manly and lawful passion for equality which excites men to wish all to be powerful and honored. This passion tends to elevate the humble to the rank of the great; but there exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.”

Interesting article, but it is out of date. Today the ultra-wealthy are the liberals. 9 out of 10 of the wealthiest men in America a dedicated leftists.

It’s not envy that powers the modern Democratic party. It’s the fear that the peons will rise up and take back control.

How true. Two wings of the same bird. Both Marx and Hitler had an aversion to Physical labor and like Cousin Eddie, were holding out for their own management position.

I watched an old movie not long ago, TRIUMPH OF THE WILL. In it the word “Nationalist Socialist” was used often to refer to Germany’s political party, but the word “Fascist” was never mentioned. That was Mussolini’s little party.

The DemonRAt Party has been a living breathing violation of the 10th Commandment for decades. It is populated by envious, jealous looters and moochers. These fools vote for the uber-rich like Pelosi and Kerry. These uber-rich criminals then loot the society and drop a few pennies for their craven grasping constituents as those constituents grovel in abject devotion to their masters. It is stomach churning to hear my leftie relatives lick the feet of the thieves that rule our economy. Liberals are toadying lickspittles.

But it’s fear of the envious peons and especially the leftist activists who organize the peons and stoke up their envy toward any big corporation or successful person that drives the wealthy and CEOs to toe the line.

In other words the left uses the envy of the peons and their numbers to pressure any powers that be to go along with their leftist agenda.

So it’s a bit of, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. You support and pay lip service to my agenda and we’ll let you continue to operate in relative peace.
