Southwest Airlines canceled more than 2,000 flights Friday through Sunday, and hundreds more on Monday because employees called in sick, or refused to sign up for overtime hours over the holiday weekend, a Southwest Airlines pilot told American Greatness.
Southwest blamed “air traffic control issues” and inclement weather for the cancelled flights, but the problems were actually a direct result of the airline’s announcement on October 4 that all of its 56,000 U.S. employees were required be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face termination.
The tyrannical mandate, he explained, erased all of the good will pilots and other conservative employees had felt toward their company.
That newfound ill will manifested itself over the three day weekend, not with an organized strike, but with many disgruntled employees calling in sick, or not signing up for overtime to help the airline fulfill the increase in flights typical for a holiday weekend.
When a corporation at the insistence of a federal government mandate changes the employment contract the corporation is warned in the least destructive of ways by their well informed employees.
The workers did the least impactful work action possible inside of their agreement. Hope the government worker bees get the message. Experienced and Flight ready Pilots can afford to sit this one out.
I like flying Southwest, and have thought of them as a pretty well run company. They are burning goodwill like crazy though. Can’t believe they are still lying and saying it is due to weather and flight control delays. please.

Actually, the Southwest folks gave management a great gift - a preview of the post vaccine mandate world they will be living in if they don’t rescind their ill considered mandate. Pretty hard to replace several thousand highly trained pilots with thousands of hours of turbine time logged. Actually, it can’t be done and the vax mandate will probably be the end of Southwest if they keep pushing. It’s crazy, there is no actual government vaccine mandate - just a press conference by Joe Biden that carries no legal weight means absolutely nothing
Unjust laws require God fearing people to resist. If we stand against this together, we can resist unjust laws.
A declared strike by the union would be illegal.

Adding to the potential trouble; pilots fearing firing can lose unused OT / sick pay / vacation days if they don’t use them. (before firing ?) So, to be safe, many are using them.
SWA has also set some type of deadline that expires the day before Thanksgiving....creating a potentially disastrous situation just before the busiest travel day of the year.

Really. Bad weather and flight control issues only affect Southwest and no other airlines? They cannot believe people are that stupid.

SWA CEO Gary Keller told CNBC today that they are forced to abide by Biden’s mandate, which he says affects all companies with govt. contracts, which all airlines do.

Biden knows he’ll be sued, so he made the press release mandate, hoping companies would voluntarily abide.
