Nothing wrong with diesel boats if you just want to defend your coasts, and that’s what the Aussies ordered. Diesel is a lot cheaper to run.

The French-Australia sub deal was a disaster and Australia was looking for a way out. They probably begged the USA and UK to sell them a better sub. With Canada also rejecting the French sub, it is effectively dead in the water. France is acting like a spoiled brat, probably hoping this little tantrum will force us to somehow compensate them for this lost sale.

As for the UK, this is a pinprick compared to the French treatment of UK during BREXIT. The UK should be looking for any possible opportunity to screw their EU “friends”.

France and the U.K. are both upset with Biden’s failed leadership. Where is the media saying how our country has lost respect around the globe because of Biden’s policies? Well, they are corrupt and lie, but the people see this stuff.

I have to use the broken clock rule here, by no mean I would admire or support such a person. Now my disclaimer is aside, I have to say that Osama Bin Laden and most bad guys and dictators know human nature. Bin Laden said something where thee "strong horse" gets more respect than the "weak horse" or the was we are going, the "dead horse." We are a weak horse at best and a dead horse at worse. Dictators from Hitler to bad guys from Charles Manson know this and are willing to exploit it. Our side for the most part is not as willing but we need to understand we do need to follow that with respecting our morals and ethics. We haven’t diesel boats for a long time. All carriers and submarines are nuke.

As for cheaper, the cost of nuclear is expensive. The cost of support infrastructure for nuclear propulsion is very high especially if you don’t already have one. A refueling can take 2-3 years although newer boats fuel should last a vessel life. You still have cost of defueling/decommissioning at the end.

We have nuclear for global deterence, not cost.
