My SIN Is JUDGMENT
Old School ^ | 9/6/21 | Patrick Rooney

I visited an old friend over the weekend. We had not talked for far too long a time. He gave me some sound advice–it was about me.

We were discussing someone who was a mutual friend, and who’d wronged me. Even though I knew it was wrong to carry resentment towards my former friend for what he had done, nevertheless, I have been unable to completely shake that resentment.

In a nutshell, my friend told me something I thought I already knew–that even if my former friend was 100% wrong–I AM WRONG FOR CONTINUING TO RESENT HIM FOR IT!

That statement took away my excuses for acting in a childish way while I walk in an adult’s body.

I felt like I had been backed into a corner, and exposed.

And funny, accepting my friend’s statement caused a freeing, and yet something else inside me was not happy about it at all. I sat with that last night until I went to bed.

There is still something inside fighting this truth, but yet in a way, it feels like the lance has already pierced the dragon.

All that’s left now is allowing the truth to settle inside.

My sin is judging.

Sure, I can look back and see where this started. My mother was a judger, and my father–though certainly not a bad man, was someone who–like many in his Great Depression / World War II generation–struggled with internal conflicts routinely drowned with unfiltered cigarettes, alcohol, bad food, and the trivial news of the day.

The judger needs the failure (real or perceived) of the “bad” actor to feed the judgment!

When I’m at the gym, I notice something inside me judging everyone I see–whether it’s the lifters who curse like sailors, or someone who acts “too strong” or “too weak.” It doesn’t matter–they can’t win. The judger needs its food!

Traumas and Judging While talking with my old friend this weekend, we began to explore how myself and others that we know have been hypnotized by hypnotic techniques presented as “meditation.” That hypnotic state leads to judgment–because in this state, we operate out of a type of automated response, instead of reason.

But my traumas–and by extension, my judgment–indeed started long ago. Hating the judger (mother), or hating the “bad actor” (father)–awakened that original trauma / hypnotic condition, which converted me into being a judger.

Trauma / judgment caused me to judge others as either worse or better than me. In those I judged to be somehow “better” than me, it caused me to become a follower, which set me up to be used by people who placed themselves (and whom I placed) in a “leader” position.

The Way Out It’s a tangled web we become part of, but the only way I have found to become freer (with the hope of complete freedom) is to be willing to acknowledge the truth when it presents itself. I still believe in meditation–but today I practice a simple form of stillness that is almost formless, and thus kept close to reality and hard to screw up! I deal with this topic in more depth in THIS POST.

My old friend helped this process along this weekend, and I am eternally grateful.

As I slowly accept responsibility for MY actions, the leader inside is emerging, and the follower fades. This is something I have always wanted, and it is heartening to see it come forward.

It starts with admitting we are wrong for judging others, even if they have done wrong to us. This is not a new concept. It is the basis of Christianity, and many others who don’t consider themselves Christians subscribe to it too.

Letting go of our pride, and asking God to help us do this, is the ticket back to LIFE. I see my life returning. I hope you maintain or regain your life too.

I am not a Roman Catholic but communion means something and there are rules about it. A given priest doesn’t get to just make stuff up as he goes along.

Ironically the friend passed judgement by stating it was wrong for op to judge.

Hmmm

“ Acts 17:31
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.””

God indeed judges as does Jesus of course. His first coming was for salvation. His second is for judgement.

“Oh... Now that could tick someone off. I wonder what the priest’s reason was.”

The son had been divorced.

I believe that if someone desires to accept the blood of Christ into their soul, they should be allowed. No one should be refused.

If someone is living in sin, this is their opportunity to change and live in Christ again. If they choose to continue to live in sin the turmoil of accepting Christ would be torture, not a privilege.

Remember Jesus’s statement about being with the sinners who needed Him? I agree with that.

No person should elevate themselves above Christ by judging. His command was for us to Love our enemies.

The reason you hang onto the option of Judging someone else is because you have a judgemental spirit. And the title of this thread applies to YOU. The church is tired of you judgemental Marta busybodies, Jesus admonished her at the time and eventually you folks will be similary chastised.
....................................................
Your comments here perfectly exemplify the very judgemental mindset you’re railing about! And by doing so you neatly affirm my basic premise which is that being judgemental is an innate characteristic of the human species. Thank you for providing such a clear example!

There is a difference.
............................
Well don’t be coy about it. Give us an explanation of the difference you’re alluding to.

That explains the state of our courts today. All secular judges.
...............................................
Well God forbid that judges should JUDGE, secular or otherwise!

If I exhibit that behavior, it is because I’m falling SHORT of what God intends, not because it is what we’re SUPPOSED to be doing, Martha. It’s like... it never gets through to you people. Your judgemental spirit keeps people from Heaven.

In between those two comings, we are explicitly told not to judge.

“Yes but He also said He is returning to judge the world.”

I don’t think that is exactly what He said, but I always reserve the right to be wrong.

Matthew 13:40
“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

Mark 9:49
Everyone will be salted with fire.

Luke 3:16
John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Luke 9:54
When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”

Luke 12:49
Not Peace but Division
“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

Hebrews 12:29
for our “God is a consuming fire.”

2 Peter 3:7
By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

2 Peter 3:12
as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

Jesus does not “Judge” the world. However, He is bringing Heaven to earth and impurities and sin can not exist in the high frequency environment of Heaven. It is like placing a dense object in the microwave, it heats up and catches on fire.

The “Helper Spirit” or “Holy Spirit” is already here and getting stronger everyday. This is why the weeds and evil are acting up right now. They fear global warming as they are afraid that the Light of the Holy Spirit will kill them.

We truly are in the “Tares in the wheat” period Jesus spoke of in Matthew 13. Rejoice that evil is fearful and acting up as it is a sign that the time is near.

God is in control and everything is unfolding according to His Plan. He is even using evil to do good, as you will see many people reach the point of suffering and despair, and only then will they turn to God and surrender.

When I do exorcisms the demons are afraid of the Light that flows through me. I feel the heat due to my own impurities as I too am a sinner. Often the sweat pours off of me and the room gets hot. God’s Love is so strong that evil can not exist in it, and if it tries it becomes fire and departs in torment.

Every human soul on earth has a spark of God’s Light in their soul. Often it is hidden deep in many layers of darkness, but it is still there. It is the same spark that you see in a child’s eyes. The weeds do not have this spark. Thus it is easy to sort the souls that are misguided and recruited by satan and those that are pure evil. They are all afraid of Prayer. Those souls that are recruited by satan can be redeemed by showing them that satan lied to them about the Light. That they actually are Light. This is the great redemption that is coming. I call it the New Pentecost. It will be far greater than Peter’s 3,000.

It’s never too late, as the vineyard workers learned.

I share that those with ears might hear, and see for themselves.

A person’s judgmental spirit keeps no one out of heaven.

A person’s sin has no bearing on another’s salvation.

Physician, heal thyself.

No, we are explicitly told how to judge. Not hypocritically, but with righteous judgement.

John 7:24
“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

Even Paul fell into this trap. Read the warning to the churches that he was planning to visit, promising his judgement for those who stray from the “Way.” He does this frequently.

He did ok until the last sentence. He is mocking him. It has nothing to do with being a Christian.

“ John 5:22 ESV

The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,

2 Timothy 4:1

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:

Acts 17:31

Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

Jesus does and will judge. He will say to many to said to Him “Lord, Lord,”. “Depart from Me for I never knew you.”

He also offers salvation. Mercy and justice meet at the cross.
