Gov. to call special session to address expiring ban after Supreme Court voided federal moratorium. House Democrats representing the five boroughs are pressing Gov. Kathy Hochul to extend the state’s eviction moratorium.
The newly sworn-in governor received a letter Saturday by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and co-signed by a dozen lawmakers, including Reps. Nydia Velazquez, Carolyn Maloney, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jerry Nadler, urging her to prolong the state-level ban, which is set to expire Tuesday.

Their minions want to bankrupt people and buy land for cheap
Can I ask a stupid question?
Does back rent ever get paid by these tenants? Just because there’s an eviction moratorium, doesn’t mean that you don’t have to pay your rent. Unemployment has come way down, so theoretically people who lost jobs due to covid originally are back to work. And if they are back to work, they are earning money again to pay the rent. Again, just because they stopped eviction proceedings doesn’t mean you get free rent.
Or am I wrong, that in the fine print, people are getting free rent? Or people think they are getting free rent, and so stopped paying rent because they didn’t think they owe rent any longer?
“No State shall enter into any ... Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts.”
US Constitution, Article 1, Section 10.
Constitution Schmonsitution (blue states)
They are on a mission to cancel rent entirely. Of course no property tax moratorium (I contacted Hochul’s office, Tom Reed and Pam Helming as much good as that will do)
Where in the Constitution does it say the gov’t has the right to rescind property rights? Where does it say landlord rights are subservient to tenant rights? Those dunderheads in DC who are supporting this have not thought it through. The long run consequence will be land use that the income levels of the current tenants will not be able to afford.
We’ll see how quickly she adapts Cumo’s Marxism.
So did the SC find that all moratoriums were unconstitutional or just that the CDC had no authority?
Where in the Constitution does it say the gov’t has the right to rescind property rights?
It’s still free rent...Bet me that when this all ends and landlords raise the rents, the dem nazis will pass a law forbidding them to do that,too....
Every renter will live in ghetto apts.... Where everything leaks and nothing is ever fixed....
No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.-PJ
new RAT just like the old RAT!!!
Found to be illegal so let’s do it anyway!
It is hard to tell what is really going on, and “our media” will refuse to look.
My opinion?
People (renters) started with just the knowledge they couldn’t be evicted for missing or leaying a payment. Then, as the months progressed, and they realized that they they really could NOT BE EVICTED for any reason, no matter how little they paid, they just stopped paying rent at all.
Then, that word for around, and 10s of thousands more realized the same thing, and millions stopped paying rent.
And the democrats applauded every failure.
They still owe it all - but the landlord has to take them to court to get paid, the court backlogs are huge, and most of the deadbeats are near bankruptcy, anyway.
The deadbeats' credit will be ruined, of course, but they always have Section 8 to look forward to...
Yep. Rats bankrupting small landlords so their corporate buddies can clean up.
Theoretically, all these people who stopped paying rent, but who have jobs and have the money, will pay up and get their back rent caught up. Theoretically, that should happen at some point.
Do they have the money? Assuming they were still working, didn’t they save the money, and put rent money aside, so they could pay rent again someday? Did they spend the money foolishly and just don’t have the cash anymore?
already been done.
Fine. Doc their pay to pay the property owners. Problem solved.
