Why the rapid collapse? “In the wake of President Biden’s withdrawal decision, the U.S. pulled its air support, intelligence and contractors servicing Afghanistan’s planes and helicopters. That meant the Afghan military simply couldn’t operate anymore. The same happened with another failed American effort, the South Vietnamese army in the 1970s, said retired Lt. Gen. Daniel Bolger, who commanded the U.S.-led coalition’s mission to train Afghan forces in 2011-2013.” (WSJ link)

An eyewitness described the scene at Kabul airport to the BBC:
The departure hall turned into chaos after people said boarding passes were being printed secretly for officials and high-profile people who showed up at the airport.
I saw three former MPs, a few deputy ministers and some celebrities queuing up. Some didn’t even have a booking. We waited for almost eight hours, until airport staff started leaving their desks - first the check-in counters and then the migration and passport desks… different rumours created chaos. Some escaped from the airport and some rushed towards the gates.
No-one was in any of the passport check cabins and the QR scan doors were destroyed. There wasn’t a security check before getting to the gates.
We walked through and saw that the big glass doors between the gates and the airplanes were shattered. People ran towards the last plane (it seems the first plane, which was ours, was filled by officials and took off) and there was a second flight which people started to board.
It was almost a stampede.
We walked back and saw many hopeful passengers just sitting under the airplane near the runway. People were shocked and didn’t know what to do, running from one plane to the other.

We then walked towards the exit to get in the car. Armed men in plain clothes were guarding the airport.
People were very desperate, some were running towards the airport, some were escaping. In order to stop people from getting into the airport, the guards opened fire into the air.
When I was getting out, there was a guy shooting in the air. A few minutes away on the airport’s road, I saw several police vehicles left alone on the road with doors open.
I can still hear sporadic gunshots and helicopters.
Taliban to declare ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ soon – report
The Taliban, who have rampaged across Afghanistan in recent days and earlier today entered the capital, Kabul, are on the verge of declaring that they have taken control of the country and that it is now the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, according to Press Association reports citing a Taliban official.
You're right. Just ask John Kerry or Jane Fonda.
Wonder how many Americans are still there, including military, now with no way out?
Are we looking at another Benghazi or Iranian hostage crisis?
I have no sympathy they ha e had 20 years to build an army.
“1) Completely destroy, occupy, and rebuild the nation like we did with Germany and Japan after World War II.”
The average IQ in Afghanistan is 84. It is not possible to build a functioning society with that populace. That is literally the average person in Afghanistan is too dumb to serve in the US Military in a draft era. As in there is not a single job they can be trained to do that they do not ruin the efficiency of. Cook, solid waste, nothing.
Germany and Japan both had histories of industry, thought, literature, science, and intelligence. They just needed a hand up from the pavement we knocked them down onto.
Afghanistan never had the potential for that. They have too low of an average IQ as a nation. They will never rise above mere subsistence, violence, backwards religion, and depraved sexual morality.
We pretended they are all “people” just like us.
“The Democrats in 1975 wanted South Vietnam to fall.”
That is one NASTY thing to claim...other than you’re right.
To be specific, Walter Mondole and the Democrats INTENTIONALLY prevented arms and fuel from being supplied to South Vietnam when they were under attack - they literally wanted the Communists to win, and they were successful.
Not true...the Trump/America haters are loving every second of this! They’re finally getting their wish of VietNam 2.0.
The average IQ in Afghanistan is 84.
I was wondering about that. Not that I doubt you but what is your source for this?
I think they had learned a lot. For a while they will play the "democracy" game and after firm grip on the country they will produce total terror.
And with the open border + who knows how many refuges allowed inside western countries they might go on the offensive.
IMHO, they’ve been useless for 20 years. They never wanted to fight the Taliban, they either knew the futility of trying to govern their country, or just didn’t give 2 sheets what happened to it.
“Bombing Afghanistan is like pissing in a sea of piss.”
“If the Afghan Army could not defend the nation“
As the Empire of Lies collapses, let’s tell the truth for once: the Taliban IS the nation. The LGBTQ loving female empowering democratic Afghanistan does not exist, has never existed, and never will exist.
We hired a couple of hundred actors to play government. Left on their own they ran down the curtain and left town a lot richer.
We’ve been in this movie before.
Never again.
No more Neo-Con adventures.

“Not giving them an out, but those Afghan security forces woke up one morning and we had sneaked away in the night, and cut their power and water as we left.
It was a low life demoralizing, disrespectful thing to do. Lots of ways we could have left, but that was a punch on the gut of any guy to see their ally do that.
It would sure take the wind out of your sails.”

And THAT was not like the military I once served proudly in. That military was always scrupulous about well planned turnovers of command of facilities. What a perfumed-prince way to operate—a real cluster fook that only Biden’s generals could dream up. Slinking away in the middle of the night.
