The Pentagon spent $88 billion dollars training the Afghan Army for 20 years
It collapsed in 1 month
Not one general or politician will face consequences for this.

The military (with the aid of actionable intelligence) should be used to break stuff and kill people, not be occupiers for two decades trying to change a sixth century culture that deifies willing martyrs to maintain the status quo.
How many trillions we’ve spent on welfare and they still don’t work. Or is that related some how...
I don’t believe $88 billion for a minute. It was almost certainly AT LEAST TEN TIMES that amount over 20 years.
After all these years, all we can say is, we created another Iran?” Peace there will come to all for sure. s/
You’d have to go pull him out of a San Fran bathhouse to get his opinion.
So true.
The $88 billion dollar toilet seat, right there.....
At least the Taliban cannot fly HH-60s.
And the Cheney’s lined their pockets every step of the way. /spit.
Because we did not teach them to use Taliban tactics. If we had used Taliban tactics it would’ve been over long ago
The ARVN held out for two years against the much more numerous and heavily armed North Vietnamese.
I was listening to the end of the 5 PM Fox News show, Bill Bennett made what I considered to be a very accurate statement. The republican NEO-cons were more interested in democracy in other countries than they were to listening(democracy)to the people of the United States. It sounds so true.
Pretty much draft deferments, National Guard, and others with no skin in any war make too many decisions. They do not fight, their children do not fight, just others and their children.
“Long ago, I believed it was the natural yearning of humans to live in freedom. Boy, was I ever wrong.”
Me, too.
I am pretty certain this is a cooked figure. The real rough order cost is several times this number.
Talk about YES men
Really?
When and where?
Out-Standing!
Mr. Bin Laden spent something like half a million to make 9/11 happen. In response, Dubya got baited into two Vietnams, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. In which, Trillions of US taxpayer dollars have been spent which could have been spent on better things.
In the meantime, while the US was taking on debt and weakening itself, China quietly developed and advanced it’s technological prowess over the years.
Then, the US hires it’s “trusted ally in the war on terror” Pakistan to help. Gave them billions of dollars in aid. Pakistan pretended to help but also was a safe haven for the Taliban to escape to and regroup. They played us well.
Now 20 years later, US understands the meaning of “graveyard of empires” and it will be another Saigon in about a month. There’s no sugar-coating it. So who has benefited from all this sorry shenanigans, other than defense contractors and the politicians they donated to? The Taliban, a close ideological ally of the Pakistan military will soon control Afghanistan, giving Pakistan strategic depth. Not to mention the loads of $$$ Pakistan got paid over the years by US for pretending to help. And once the Taliban have control over all of Afghanistan and China establishes diplomatic relations with them after the dust settles down a bit.......well then helllooooooo Chinese mining companies. Afghanistan is supposed to have huge mineral reserves, especially Lithium.
I’m sure they’re laughing stomach-aching HARD right now inside Pakistani and Chinese intelligence agencies.
One big reason they are folding is both the afghan army and the talibuns share the same arab religion.
The Afghan national army wasn’t. Afghanistan never was a real country — just a hodgepodge of tribal-nations living in a inaccessible high plateau bounded by some very high mountains. Simply putting together a body of armed men led by officers with divided loyalties and teaching them some modern battle drill techniques does not equal a national army. They aren’t moored to a political entity because the Afghan polity does not exist.
It should not be surprising that faced with a determined insurgency from the numerically dominant tribe that is merely seeking to dominate the urban centers that that ‘national army’ will fold like a cheap suit.
I don’t think ‘nation-building’ was ever really the Plan. I think the Pentagon was looking at following their ‘Lilly-pad’ strategy of ringing Iran with small bases that would be useful if Iran attempted to make a military play. Either we started to believe our own propaganda about our noble intentions, or we decided that deterring Iran is not possible or desirable.
We also installed a world class cell phone system, better than the one I use here in S.E. Florida.
