But he presented with GI symptoms and a negative PCR, he had a biopsy that showed ischemia, his lungs were full of bacteria and had no histologic lung findings suggestive of COVID, and tested positive late after a close exposure.

The one good thing about COVID happening so much is that at least Doctors sort of know what is happening with it damaging other organs than just lungs.
I have had histoplasmosis that went to other organs. Drs are completely clueless.
When I brought up the word “histoplasmosis” and asked a question about it one of the Doctors immediately said “It is rare” as if I couldn’t have possibly encountered it.
I side eyed him and said maybe you should look at my CT scan....
Histoplasmosis can linger in your body and reactivate..but you wouldn’t know that from the Drs I have encountered!

Heck, you can have CT scans and radiologists that completely miss ( think malpractice) pertinent information.
It has happened to me.

Also, educated Drs who give a damn should look at the CT scans not just rely on a report. These days they tend to just go by the report. I had one Dr who looked at my CT scans and saw something else that a radiologist missed.
I recommend getting second opinions on things.
