In an interview with The Big Issue, William Shatner spoke about mankind’s future, his love of danger, and his own mortality.
Many fans of Star Trek drew comfort from the fact that humans made it to the future without destroying themselves, but Shatner doesn’t think this will happen. “Fifty years ago, I read Rachel Carson‘s Silent Spring,” he explained. “I remember vividly. What she said was going to happen has happened.

The analytical and empirical evidence against DDT is compelling — which is why it was not returned to service in spite of the menace of mosquito borne illnesses. Notably, the rise of resistance and the loss of beneficial insect species diminished the value of DDT even before the ban.
But he won’t make it to the 23d Century.
But Keith Richards will.
But Keith Richards will.
Keith Richards IS from the 23rd century.
Yeah, but he will look every year of it and then some.
Nope.
Notably, the rise of resistance and the loss of beneficial insect species diminished the value of DDT even before the ban.
Not really.
It was over used but we have had greater loss of beneficial insect species since DDT was banned.
So.... yeah. That is another problem with the DDT Evil meme.
Reality disagrees.
I like recycling....used motor oil....good wooden furniture...plastics..common metals....rare earth metals...paper...cars...hardwoods..
Completely agree with you about hollywood, media, and politians coopting the latest semi-intellectual fad.
Shatner’s love of danger. He’s a reminder that the US no longer requires any military service from eligible young men holding green cards. What a pity, he could have satisfied his love of danger permanently with a tour as an infantryman in Korea.
He’s Canadian.
Rachel Carson‘s Silent Spring...wasn’t that the book that got DDT banned...and MILLIONS died because of her false allegations?
It’s the 55th anniversary of the TOS and he’s the main attraction.
Have you read any of this thread?
such a hard thing to have to take a license away from someone- ya want them to be as independent as possible for as long as possible, but there comes a point it’s no longer safe- we had to deal with that too- felt bad- but had to be done for everyone’s safety
he just did a dive with josh gates with sharks, testing some kind of electric fence- everyone was freaking out except for shatner- he loved it
Esperanto? Did he come to his senses???
I too once thought as you did, but then I took a weekend in the local university science library digging out and reviewing the scientific studies. The case against DDT is conclusive. Insisting otherwise does not make it so.
I am one of the morons that was exposed to DDT fog as a boy. It never hurt me that I can tell. Well, except for the pain associated with Mosquito bites. The last time I was bitten, after three days of agonizing pain, the Mosquito died.
😂
I know I’ll be dead by the 23rd Century...Do I care what happens after I die? Not really, my kids will create Strong Conservatives...
