Exorbitant fees, draconian laws, and more combine to disadvantage minorities the most.
Gun control disproportionately impacts the poor and minorities and puts them at greater risk of prosecution. So why is it that progressives, who like to think of themselves as champions of the “people,” are always pushing for stricter gun-control laws?
In January 2016, New York mayor Bill de Blasio created “Project Fast Track” to aggressively pursue all firearms cases in New York. Defendants in that court are overwhelmingly young black males who are charged with simply possessing an illegal firearm — not using it or committing any violent crime. The majority in these cases have never been convicted of a felony.
It’s a local snapshot of a broader picture. Nationally, while black Americans amount to only 13 percent of the population, they receive 51 percent of all felony firearm-possession convictions. A number of these cases may in fact be connected to more nefarious criminal activity. And given the crime wave sweeping U.S. cities, prosecutors should be pursuing violent crimes wherever they can.
But minorities and those living in poor areas are much more likely to experience crime, especially violent crime, compared with their fellow citizens. These individuals are in particular need of the ability to defend themselves, and they have the same right to do so as someone living in a safe, upper-class suburb; and yet gun-control laws eviscerate this right for vulnerable Americans in several ways.

Always was. The Democrat Politicians could not have the former slaves carrying pistols. Blacks today are too stupid to realize that. Besides, the Democrats give them free stuff.
Well, if you can’t get an ID to vote, you can’t get one to buy a gun through an FFL.
As gun control was in the beginning, it is now and ever shall be, racist at the core.
Slaves and subjects were not allow to own or carry weapons.
In 1096 in Europe it was illegal for a peasant to own a crossbow.
All gun control laws are aimed directly at minorities and the poor. Everywhere.
The rich and connected are armed or have special guards to protect them. People at the bottom who are more likely to be the victim of a violent crime are not allowed to defend themselves with weapons.
That applied only to high-capacity, assault crossbows.

The common denominator being the blue run cities, not the gun ownership.
If gun ownership or possession were the problem, the the shooting and gun violence would be happening across rural America, which is heavily armed.
Since it’s not, there must be another factor. But the leftists will never admitthat.
In those days, the crossbow WAS the high-capacity, assault weapon.

In something of a stroke of irony, it was then-governor Ronald Reagan who — in seeking to damp the Black Panthers in Oakland — worked to nix a long-standing State Law permitting loaded open carry in CA.
Actions taken out of fear do not effect righteousness.

...good post...... actually, there is no such thing as an “illegal firearm”.....yes, if a convicted felon posseses or even touches a gun, that act is illegal, but the gun itself is not an “illegal firearm”.....
The old “Black Codes and Jim Crow laws” actually forbade a black person from even touching a firearm.
In parts of the South, a free black could only own a .22 rifle and a .410 shotgun.
In Little Rock fifty two years ago, a gun store was broken into. The only thing stolen were .22 pistols. So the police went looking for only black burglars.
Crossbows were actually illegal to hunt with in the US. In the 1950s George Stevens of Huntsville Arkansas began lobbying for them to be legal.
They became legal to hunt with in the 1970s Arkansas.
I had a toy one way back in 1956.
Always has been racist. As ColinNoir has frequently noted, liberals have always been against letting black inner-city folks get access to guns. It’s a bit of a throwback to slavery days, can’t let them arm themselves, they’d get uppity.
There is a white (or, in the case of followers of Rev Wright, black)cape and hood in every liberal’s closet.
Unless the serial numbers have been ground-off and it’s untraceable.
Memphis is having a high Child shooting/killing up tick, theses are not teens, but grade school to months old bystanders. Nearly 1 a day. Already at record level. And few solved.
