Not long after the November 2020 election I ended my six-year long dalliance with Facebook. Between the mindless and inaccurate 'fact checking', the endless censorship of conservatives, and the utterly vapid postings by my 200+ contacts I didn't see any reason to stay on that platform. I also didn't like the idea that my presence there was funding the Democrat's War on America.
After I deleted my account I'll admit that I went through a withdrawal process similar to that of an addiction sufferer. That's because Facebook is designed to be addictive. They openly admit this.
The way they make it addictive is to identify those things you like to see and then their algorithm feeds you a steady stream of posts that keep you scrolling and clicking.
Absent Facebook in my daily life I'm a lot happier. My stress level is way down even though the USA is steadily getting worse. My anxiety over 'staying up to date' is gone. I can't emphasize enough how significant these changes have been for me.
At the same time I left Facebook I started to take note of how it seems that with every mass shooting or similar act of violence the perpetrator's Facebook page is removed from public view almost immediately. You've all noticed this, too.
My point with this observation may seem so obvious it's silly but bear with me: each of these criminals had a Facebook page. I can't think of the last of these violent murderers who didn't have a Facebook page.
This is significant to me because in FBI profiling they identify people who are called 'grievance collectors'. These are usually fringe types who have a kind of selective outrage over one particular topic or perhaps a narrow range of topics. They follow news items that provide a confirmation bias to them about how awful some particular grievance is.
And then Facebook amplifies this confirmation bias by identifying the news items and posts this person is seeking and then it feeds the person more such information to keep them scrolling and clicking. The result is that someone who might have had serious issues is literally taken to the brink of madness and beyond as their violent worldview is confirmed over and over by what they see on Facebook.
It isn't unreasonable to wonder if perhaps people who are prone to such violence could be manipulated to support a political narrative. Simple feed an at-risk individual a steady flow of violence-inspiring news and imagery and the end result is not only predictable but perhaps controllable. Violence on demand is indeed a potential. With the events of the past year in mind it's not unreasonable to consider that mobs of violent people could be manipulated to take to the streets on cue.
Need a riot in Portland tonight? A mob of looters in Detroit this afternoon? Maybe a gun control narrative needs support in Chicago?
Since it's well established that Facebook influences consumer behavior and purchasing actions to the point that advertisers spend billions every month on the platform is it really such a far reach to consider that Facebook could influence other actions?
Facebook certainly influenced the 2020 elections by censoring and silencing Trump supporters and then amplifying socialist and Marxist voices.
My point here is that it is time for conservatives to delete their Facebook accounts. Stop feeding revenue to our opponents, stop giving them your data, and stop letting them manipulate you. Because they ARE manipulating you!
Free yourselves.
And maybe, quite possibly, save lives in doing so.
FB allows miscreants to publicize the acts they would do any damn way:-(
“Does Facebook cause mass shootings and other violence?”
No! According to Democrats, it’s not people killing people. It’s gun owners who let their guns run loose and the guns just go out and kill someone.
No, Gub mint shrinks using Psychotropic drugs to control nut jobs and get them to do such.
Needs a demonstration to drive home a need for gun control? Use a gub mint plant nutjob to do it at just the right time.
CHeck the number of mass shooters who were under the control of some gum mint shrink using such Psychotropic and the number is astounding.
It’s the FBI’s way.
I no longer use my FB account and I’ve quit using Google aps. I currently am using Duck Duck Go for my search engine, but just learned that Google bought them out...not good. I’ve also quit using Google mail. Read your license with them. They have the right to not only read all of your emails, they can do whatever they want to with that information, most of which they sell to advertisers. If anyone has a good search engine not owned by one of the tech giants, please post it here.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Democrats went after the people who pulled the trigger instead of the trigger itself.
Much as I hate Facebook the real commonality to mass shootings is psychiatric “treatment”. Every shooter has been in their hands.
+1
First off, while I am not disagreeing with your theories, there are also some very logical and sensible reasons for taking down a mass shooter’s facebook, including protecting the privacy and safety of family members and friends, not just from the rabid media, but also from other nutjobs or even from revenge driven fanatics. Another reason is one that I happen to agree with, and that is that I don’t believe mass shooters should get any personal notoriety. I think the media as a whole should avoid using the perpetrator’s name, but of course they never would do that because they are vultures.
I wont go near facebook myself. It’s been a loooong time since I had any experience with them at all, and even back then it was almost all negative experience. The convenience of staying in quick in touch with family and friends isn’t worth it. I’d rather just catch up with them in person, the old fashioned way. There is far far to much garbage that comes along with it, including the ridiculous re-posting of stupid memes and political trolling. When the internet was young it seemed to hold so much promise for permitting the sharing of information, and while it has allowed for that, it seems to be swamped with the lowest common denominator. The noise is much louder than the signal.
It gives a platform to communicate with other freaks that want to kill Americans.. Seems that kind of stuff is not blocked but biden memes will get you banned.
>>>Much as I hate Facebook the real commonality to mass shootings is psychiatric “treatment”. Every shooter has been in their hands.<<<
I won’t disagree. But now think about the person who is in treatment and is at-risk. Facebook amplifies their obsessions and can potentially negate the effects of treatment.
Also, identify just one of these mass shooters in the USA over the past ten years who did not have a Facebook account?
Just one.
“Wouldn’t it be cool if Democrats went after the people who pulled the trigger instead of the trigger itself.”
It’d be handy if the Democrats would use something like Facebook to identify potential mass shooters, wouldn’t it?
Wait...that’s my point.
Google added DDG to their list of client browsers but apparently didn’t buy them out. They were responding to the growing demands by various countries to break up the big tech companies.
There were mass murders by psych patients long before Facebook. Richard Speck was in the 50s. And so on.
Anyhow I reject the concept that electroshocking, or drugging, or chopping up someone’s brain is a benefit.
I’m not sure what a “client browser” means in terms of privacy.
I never saw the single thing about electric shock.
The “Root Cause” of the deteriorating society is lack of a Moral code. We lost this country as a nation when the Ten Commandments were removed from the town square. There are no guideposts.
The “ Progressives” to their credit seized upon the opportunity to combine forces to gut the basis for Society. They are removing anything sacred, our moral values and traditions. There is no framework for any meaning in life.
There maybe a chance to promote the Golden Rule. Teach people to Love one another as Christ instructed. But civilization will need to hit a bottom to bounce back.
Pardon the last post. Damned spell check.
In any case I never said a single thing about electric shock therapy.
I meant that you can select duckduckgo through google’s browser. They don’t own it. Client was a bad choice of words.
This is the Farcebook Is Evil ping list.

You get it for free but the quality sucks. You have no say in how it works. The guy who runs it gets rich. There's no real competition. You have no privacy. And if you say one thing they don't like they'll shut you up. |
